Judgement Day

Thread Starter
Ok, I hadnt seen any posts about this, so I wanted to start one. Not really for an argument, just want some views/opinions on it. I was standing in line yesterday at the grocery store and saw a magazine with the heading "World predicted to end Sept 11 2007" To be honest, my heart skipped a few beats. These types of things, or that type of talk, scares the s*** outta me!! I dunno why, it just does. I have always been taught that noone knows when the lord will return.....and it will just happen.

What is everyones opinion on this? What do you think is going to happen? And what about that date? Does anyone think it will happen that day?

I'm wearing a sandwich board right now that proclaims: "We are all DOOMED! Stay tuned to this space for further details"

Fire and brimstone. Nope! I just consider such "announcements" attempts to manipulate people, and best ignored.

It will happen when it happens. Meanwhile I think I'll just live my life, thanks.

LOL...I don't pay any attention to things like that. Did it appear on one of those "magazines" that aren't even fit to line a birdcage with?

I agree with this.

The mag did what it was suppose to: Catch your attention.

No one knows when the world will end for sure. That's just science v. religion and which you want to believe more.

Was it next to a Nostradomus article saying that he predicted it?

The world will end when a) either we finally drive ourselves into extinction because we use all of our resources, or b) the sun burns out

Actually, under your scenario "A," the world doesn't actually end, just all human existance. The world will continue to exist with or without us until scenario "B."
No it can't end it. We haven't undergone the 7 years of tribulation phophecied in Revelation. And the Anti-Christ has not appeared (don't start you guys) yet. So, no worries.

Grrr!!! I hate it when people use these kind of scare tactics to get noticed - so many folks get distressed unnecessarily!!

There is a batty old man who stands inthe middle of our nearby city centre wearing a sandwich board proclaiming DOOM! and screaming 'repent!!!' at passers-by!!

St Francis said it best when asked about the end of the world. He was posed this situtation: He would be in his garden and would be approached by God. God would tell him that the would was going to end in half an hour.

St Francis's responce: I'd continue to tend my garden.

You can't control if and when the world will end. It's best to keep living your life.

Since the Book of Revelation was given to the public, the "end times" have been near according to some. As for the Anti-Christ figure - some said it was any of the Roman Emperors, various Popes, Martin Luther, members of the British Monarchy, Reagan, Clinton, Bush (basically - name your US President), Saddam, Khadafi, Yeltsin, Gorbachev, etc. etc. etc. The wars and famine and natural disasters have always been claimed to point to the end times.

On the History Channel, I've even seen Theologians (not anti-Christians by any means) argue that Revelation was written more as a commentary on the current state of affairs within the Roman Empire than a prophetical piece.

Personally, I don't worry about it, regardless of which religion or scientific "proof" is offered as the basis of such. Religion has been historically horrid about predicting things, and there is no science that can serve as the basis (that I'm aware of anyway) of what the end of the world would look like prior to it happening. We haven't seen it happen before, so by that very basis anything said is no more than scientific theory.

I do not belive that any person knows when "judgement day" is comming. I think that's for God to know and for us to find out. I just make sure my heart's prepared is all
post #15 of 33
There is much more prophesy that needs to be fullfilled before Judgement Day.
The Roman Empire is not the Anti-Christ, he is a man.

Read the Left Behind books by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, they explain it well. No one knows when, that is true.

dont think or care about it.
i could happen today, or next week, or 2,000 years from now.
or we could get hit by a big rock from space and go the way of the trex. before morning.

What? Don't start? Awww, come on Cindy.....let us play!!

I think it's quite possible that we are undergoing the 7 years of tribulation at the moment. War, famine, pestilence and death abound. Not to mention all the natural disasters accompanying.

And I don't know if I think that Bush is the anti-Christ. He does fit the mold remarkably comfortably. If he's not, they're very closely related.

I've been in my job for four and a half years. When I get to seven years should I let you know?

I find the Left Behind books excellent entertainment btw

I agree with you, and I'll up you bid to 10 dollars. My mom also fears the end is near with all that's on the news. I say this stuff has been going on since before the first coming. There just weren't all these reporters and around the clock news coverage then.

(Although Sarah's remark about Bush does seem remarkably accurate--Nah, I don't want to give him that much credit)

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but I have read the entire series, and they are FICTION. Enjoyable fiction, but fiction nonetheless.
Yes, my dear, I know it hasn't happened yet and what parts are fiction.

But the scriptures quoted in the books are real.

I've seen SO many magazines that say "Judgement Day- so and so date" for YEARS! I get a good laugh at them, they are usually posted next to the 3 headed alien that Elivs is currently living with on an island or something odd like that .... its crazy talk!

It'll happen when it happens. Until then, I'll be on TCS

Does that mean Jeb is the Anti-Christ?

Cindy, I didn't say that the Roman Empire was the Anti-Christ, but that Revelation was written as a contemporary piece about the state of the world at the time within the Roman Empire. The Anti-Christ would have been aimed at the Emporer. Think about it - a figure like Nero is almost a perfect example of the Anti-Christ.

The Left Behind series is as non-fiction as The DiVinci Code. They are both works of FICTION based on historical events, or a historical writing in the case of Left Behind. As far as I know, it hasn't been made part of the Bible. It only "explains" it if you believe what they are saying to begin with. To anyone else, it is nothing more than the author's interpretation of Revelation. (BTW, did you know that the Rapture is never mentioned in the Bible at all? It's completely an invention of man/the church.)
Fun bit of trivia on the Bible - every situation where God came down to wreak justice on the evil and rescue the good - it was the evil people who were taken away, and the good ones who remained. Think Noah and the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, the flight from Egypt, etc. Its likely that it is not the good which will be swept away at the end of time, but the evil.
Yes, I did know that, that is why I didn't mention the Rapture. Just the scriptures. They never quote any scriptures for the rapture because they can't I don't think.
