Political quiz

Thread Starter
I have a tendancy to like and post quizzes. I thought that this political quiz could be a good starter for some debate.

http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html

ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political description that
fits you best is...

.

CENTRIST

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government

control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on

the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention

and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,

tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what

they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

I am also a centrist.

The libertarian side of liberal.

Anyone surprised?

(I am 8.89% conservative...)

LIBERTARIAN

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and

economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one

that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose

government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate

diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

The RED DOT on the Chart shows where you fit on the political map.

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 80%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 70%.
(Please note: Scores falling on the Centrist border are counted as Centrist.)

This will come as no surprise to any regular IMO posters :

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal
matters, but tend to support significant government control of the
economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"
to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

I already know I am a social democrat. I am on the left side of the fence, obviously, but not as far left as a true Libertarian. I don't agree with a lot of `Liberal' ideals - and the thing that stands me apart from Libertarians the most is my belief that there should be quite a high level of government control and policy - I don't always believe it's every man for himself, and I do believe in the community as being equally as important as the individual. This does not correlate with Libertarian ideology. I am also more surprisingly conservative than most people would think. But it's still only a small facet of my political makeup.

I'll do the quiz for fun, though - cos I like quizzes!!

My result was:

STATIST

STATISTS want government to have a great deal of power over the economy and individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether economic liberty and individual freedom are practical options in today's world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support high taxes and centralized planning of the economy, oppose diverse lifestyles, and question the importance of civil liberties.

Just shows how silly quizzes are - I do not agree with high taxes, I do not oppose diverse lifestyles and I most certainly do NOT question the importance of civil liberties.

Liberal, no surprise.

I scored 80% on both the personal and economic issues which put right smack dab in the middle of being a Libertarian. I'm not sure if I agree with this though. To me the federal governments primary role should be national defence and the maintaining of foreign relations and trade. Not sticking their nose into what the citizens are doing. I don't have a party affiliation.

Less than 28 years until I become Emperor.

Good luck with that. I'm aiming for Supreme Queen of the Universe, myself. (I like to aim high. )

That's the definition of libertarian, almost. Limited government involvement in, well, anything except things that are necessary like defense and representing us to the world.

The issue I have with this is that if things like education, health, aged care and so forth are left up to private enterprise, they will simply be sold out to the highest bidder, with no regulation or guarantee of any kind of balance or quality. That to me is a big problem. We've already seen the ramifications of privatisation of formerly government agencies - private health insurance, telecommunications, power, gas.....where does it end?

This certainly introduces competition into the market but then the aim becomes to compete for the best price rather than to obtain the best there is to offer. I have a BIG problem with that.
