"One square of TP per visit" ?????

OK, I am all for going green, but there are some serious flaws with this line of thinking from Sheryl Crow...

That is pretty ridiculous. One square? I use a little more that that but not an excessive amount of TP.

One square? May as well just drip dry!

Thats a thought. They might start installing those hand dryers for a quick blow dry!

Perhaps she is forgetting that the average TP in the grocery store is not, I dare say, the high quality, high test stuff she can afford on her tour bus? Give me a break. Not only is it a stupid suggestion, it is simply a stupid thing to say. (However, I support her right to say it - I just think I'll hold off on shaking her hand... )

Just another limousine liberal, with no conception of how the REAL world works.

One square?? I'm sorry but there are times when one roll doesn't cut it!

That wouldn't work at all with MY fat butt!

Now, if they could just make TP a little stronger so it doesn't SHRED while I'm trying to use it, that would be FABULOUS.

Hmmm...maybe we should go back to using LEAVES?

Well, you do know they use water (for the most part) in India? You walk into a toilet stall and there's not a roll of toilet paper but a faucet! (Except in fancier hotels).

Thus you eat with your right hand and.... well... you can imagine what the left is used for. This was also the method for cleaning one's self in the middle east, which is why having your left hand cut off was such a horrible punishment (not that it wouldn't be to begin with!)

Maybe Sheryl Crow would rather have us switch to this method? I guess to conserve water she'd suggest that everyone should use just one tablespoon of water then?

I try to be as green as the next person, but the toilet is where I have my limits. One square aint gonna do it, why even bother with that square unless it is the size of a dinner napkin? Her brother even states we should wash that one square.

They also probably advocate "letting it mellow" which I cannot do although I have people dear to me who choose to. I try to find other ways to conserve.

OK, seriously? One sheet ain't gonna cut it...there's gonna be a lot of people with poopy hands.

Sometimes I wonder what that woman is thinking!

Note to self: Don't shake hands with Sheryl Crow.

I'm with Reeses and also agree with Mr.Warhulman's posted comment on the site:
"...now I just think about how bad it must smell down there"

I would never survive! There is no absorbency in such a small amount! :censor::censor::censor: she must of been tippin the bottle when she came up with this one! I find it impossible to make to do with that amount!

Maybe I WILL buy the book "Shut up and Sing" by Laura Ingraham....

Sometimes I worry that I use an excessive amount of TP, but I have sensitive skin and a few pages just feels raspy.

Oh, btw ... Does "letting it mellow" mean what I think it means? Not to flush between uses? J and I do that (but only when it's #1 ... I'm not keen on cleaning up after #2's been left in the bowl) but not when we have company or visit other people's houses. During my first year of university I lived with an extreme number of rabid environmentalists, and we caught hell from them if we flushed ...

Okay, I'm done over-sharing now.

Aaron's mother used to enforce the one square rule on him and his brother when they were little. I am NOT kidding. She wasn't buying the expensive toilet paper either.

I am guessing that you corrected him of that habit???

Besides, less TP = more laundry in the end . Which is worse for the environment.

Ok that's a little strict and ocd might I ad!!! Geeze... She wouldn't have wanted me growing up! Im bad I use alot of toilet paper... I pay for it!

It does mean that - and I do the same thing. Why waste 4-7 gallons on a flush just for a little bit of pee? If I were a guy, I'd pick a spot in the yard, LOL.

Well, I know I can't afford the quadruple ply, but I can see how *maybe* in some cases, one square of quadruple ply would be enough.. I didn't actually read her comment, though, I just got the gist of what was said from the thread... maybe she meant use one square, and then if you needed another use a second square?

Yes, means not flushing after #1. Think the saying is "if its yellow, let it mellow. If its brown, flush it down." Talk about overshare! That's really what they say though.

People out here talk about it. Usually in the more green-aware areas of town. I respect it, but it is just one thing I cannot do especially if there is another person's waste in there. Lots of people try to make me feel guilty for not doing it but that's okay too
I am not a great (or even adequate) housekeeper or anything, it is just something I feel yucky about. Yep, I'm weird.

Back to our regularly scheduled thread!

I think she inferred that if it was #2, you could have two squares (or maybe even 3! ).

Maybe just bring on the corn cobs.

And what is this about she designed some removable sleeve thing. I don't think the woman is all there. She is turning into a laughing stock. Not good for the global warming cause one would think.

And when she said to Rove "you work for me", uuuuhhh Sheryl you are not a US citizen.

Sheryl Suzanne Crow was born February 11, 1963 in Missouri, near Memphis, Tennessee.

How is she NOT a citizen? I think being born in the USA automatically MAKES you one.
If she's born here, she had citizenship, but if she's got citizenship in another country as well, she may not have citizenship here because I don't think that the USA recognizes dual citizenship. But, even if she weren't a citizen, she could be an LPR in which case she'd have the same rights as citizens, effectively.
I would think that spending the money to get the low-flow, water saving toilets would count more toward saving the world than sparing the extra amount of water I would NEED to use to wash my hands about 20 times if I only used 1-3 squares of TP.

The low flow toilets use less than 2 gallons of water per flush. (We specify these regularly in the plumbing design side of the engineering office I work at.) And they are making regular progress in the overall design so that you don't have to flush 2-3+ times to get it all down (that was the problem with the old water saver toilets, which completely defeated the purpose of it!)

If she really wants to make a difference, how about suggesting (or the press covering!) realistic proposals. There are plenty of things that the Average Joe would be willing and able to do that would make a real difference, rather than making everyone think that the environmentally conscious people are all a bunch of freaks and whack-jobs!

The USA absolutely recognizes dual citizenship. a very close friend of mine is a citizen of both the USA and Portugal, and my stepdad is a citizen of both the USA and England.
