This isnt a cry for help kind of post, more an observation. I never knew new born kitty poopy could be so big.

With Tinkerbelle's kittens, their poopy was like individual hamster poopy pellets following birth. Thats what I thought was normal.

Olivia's new borns, Reuben and Eden - their poopy is the size of like 3 or 4 pellets at one time. Its not diahrrea, its a good consistency. Its just a lot compared to what Ive seen before. And Olivia is cleaning them up without problems. The vet checked the kittens over when I took Olivia and them to the vet yesterday and she said the kittens were healthy and fat. Im just wondering if all this poop is anything to do with the fact that these kittens were born a bit heavy?

Just wondering what your observations on newborn kitten poop is.

all our kittens poop was a sort of yellow in colour and soft they only went when mum stimulated them , the only time it started looking like pellets was when they were about 3-4 weeks and starting to eat food.

Lol it is amazing what we end up discussing at times, you are right lol! Tip - just dont mention it to hubby over your nice romantic candlelight dinner lol

Be interesting to hear what the more experienced members say too. What is normal poop for a new born?

Since there were only 2 kittens, perhaps that's why they are so big. I think you said 4 ounces? That is BIG. I would agree, that is probably whey the "poopy" is big, too.

I didn't see any poop for at least 3 weeks, too. Sorry I missed it, but is this Olivia's first litter?

Yes it is her first and last litter

Come to think of it...you guys are right...I didnt see Tinkerbelle's kittens poopy immediately (e.g. the same or next day) after birth

Im guessing but could be wrong..but i think these babies were overdue and overcooked in Olivia's tummy. Their digestional development is probably a bit advanced because of that? Either that or Olivia is being a bit lazy and not cleaning them as regularly as she should do (bit unfair to say though as she's being a great mum so far and I do see her cleaning the babies from time to time)

It would vary obviously from different breed cat....a siamese or moggie with simese roots will obviously lighter, for example.

But I actually dont know what is the average weight - good point. Want to find that out.

Well I guess my memory is bad, I was thinking 2-3 ounces...but some quick googling says average is 3-4 ounces. Momma had big fat babies, but she had 6, so I think at birth they were probably low-average...but boy, they grew fast.
