This AM when I got up there was Juno's hair all over the hallway rug where she was rolling during the night. I should mention that I need to fight with her to groom her. My other cat loves to be brushed. Anyway Juno is medium furred. I was going to vacuum the hall before I went to work but when I was getting ready for work I saw Juno try to swat a patch of the hair that was on the rug and then before I could do anything, she ate it. No wonder she's always trying to bring up hair balls. Somehow I need to get her to take to grooming, but why would she eat hair?

This is not odd, A lot of cats will wolf down random hair balls, especially if it is theirs! You know how they say cats are extremely clean, most are professional self groomers, some are more than others. It is also a major attention getter
! If it gets your full attention, never doubt that it will be remembered for this. Cats are very clever, but sometimes they fall into bad habits, sometimes unhealthy or even worse, simply because they want attention. Of course eating her own hair isn't so bad, but be sure to watch for progression to dental floss, ribbon, broom brissels, things similar but dangerous in their digestive systems. Not trying to scare you, but it is good to stop this type of behavior before it becomes excessive.

I think what is worse is that my kitten Sonic will eat any hair he finds. Nate and I both have long hair and he tries to eat it while it is still on our heads (we call this 'nanging' for some reason, I think because of the sound it makes when he's chewing hair right beside your ear.... as in 'Nate, get him off my head, he's nanging my hair again' - look I never claimed to be normal
)

Of course with both of us having long hair, there are times when there are long threads of human hair that he sniffs out and eats. Many times I have had to grab him and gently remove one of my hairs from his mouth before it disappears.

OMG Benson does this. He goes into the trash can to get my stray hairs from the shower.

My cats also eat their own fur when I brush them. It's normal.

I try to keep up with my stray hair too.
I've noticed when brushing the boys that if I set the brush full of fur down they will try to lick the hair out of it. Maybe it's because of scent? Trying not to leave too much of it in an area? or maybe they recognized it and just lick out of habit.

Well, at least I now know she's just normal. I try to keep floos, string, etc. up and away from both cats because I know cats are crazy and will sample almost anything except new food when you want to switch. But ya gotta love em.

I thought I was being so careful with dental floss. Yesterday I threw my used floss in the toilet. When I came home from work it was on the bathroom floor. You could tell it had been wet. One of the cats fished it out. I think it was Juno cuz she puts her toys in her water bowl and fishes it out. I questt I need to be more careful.

My Simba does the same thing with hair. He will eat his hair off the carpet and also the hair from my other cat. So, I try to pick it up when I see it laying in clumps on the carpet.
