Advice needed please.
This stray cat had her kittens on my lounge floor. I didn't mind as she was a regular visitor, so made her comfortable in a spare cat box. She has since moved them to my bedroom wardrobe. They are a week old now. I have a very big box which i would like to move them to as very soon they will be moving around and will need more space. Should i move them? The mother has shown no interest in the box even though ive made it dark for her. It's my first time with kittens so any advice will be very very gratefully received.

Hi and welcome,

Is momma cat comfortable with you being around the kittens? If she is then she may be fine with you moving them. Do you have a room you can confine them all in where they wont be too disturbed as this will help settle momma.

If momma cat is fine with you its a good idea to handle the babies a little everyday just for a few minutes to help them socialise and grow to trust people.

Im sure someone else with more experience will be along to help soon

as long as the mum cat trusts you then this shouldnt be a problem the above poster has given you great advice , the only thing i will add is she may move them back if you dont confine her.
also i dont know if you already know this , but can you try putting her on to a a good kitten food ? wet and dry it will be so much better for her while she is nursing her kittens.
one last thing, she can become pregnant nearly straight away after giving birth , i know you said she is a stray cat and i thank you for looking after her and her kittens , but can you try and keep her inside untill you might be able to get her spayed?
also welcome to TCS look foward to seeing more posts from you and we love pictures so dont forget to post pictures of mamma and kittens.

The above advice given is what I would say too. If she trusts you, it should go ok. But keep a close eye on her and the kittens during the transition/settling to new place process.

The sticky on Kitten care by gayef has lots of links to really helpful kitten articles. They are my lifeline, in addition to the advice from other TCS members on this forum. You might be able to pick up a tip of two from them, if you havent read them already.

Well done for taking mum cat in during this time. Any ideas what your furture plans are as to mum cat and the kittens? Do you have pics of the kittens? Have you named them?

Hi and thanks for your advice.
I have a nice quiet room to re settle the cat and kittens but will leave it for a week orso yet. The mum cat ive named Missi but havent thought of names for the kitties yet. Most cats around here are street cats ( i live in Turkey) and are left to get on with life. The Turks arn't too bothered about spaying, so most of us brits over here take some off the streets and get them spayed. Animal care isn't big here although there are vets but most of them are only used to dealing with cattle! They find us strange being soppy over the street dogs and cats but then again it's the culture thing and we have to tread carefully. I will get pics of the kitties and post them soon once i get the hang of this forum (it's my first time!!!!!) thanks again
