I've had my kitten for almost two weeks now. She does have a cat tree which she uses, she also plays with her many many toys. When playing she is usually very gentle with her claws, I haven't had a new scratch since her third day.
If she is doing something that is naughty, she knows that when I snap my fingers she must stop. If it doesn't work, the spray bottle helps mediate. This has stopped such behavior as her climbing up people's legs.
However, sometimes the bottle isn't a threat.
I have this problem with my dreadlocks. She usually plays with them while I sleep, and the usual technique just isn't working.
I will also put her on the floor, but that doesn't stop her, as I'm sure you can imagine. I also don't have the option of putting her in another room, as I live in a bachelor's apartment.
Any suggestions?

I know what your going through! I don't have dreads but do have long hair, and when Maia was a kitten, she loved to play, swallow, and nest in my hair! How old is she? The younger, the more this applies.....Remember, she is a kitten, she is looking for and needs the attentive care that mom kitty would give. What I would do is play with her with your hair.

She probably likes your dreads because they have a rope like appeal! My kitten is always eating my hair, biting my scalp, and clawing through my locks! I keep telling her NO (she does this while I sleep) and place her on the ground! She hasn't done it in a few days because I have been consistantly telling her no, pulling her little claws out of my hair, and placing her on the ground! I appreciate that she loves me and wants to groom me but ouchies! She also likes to kneed on my back when Im passed out! The joy of kittens! Awwww she loves you! Im waiting to wake up one day with chunks of my hair missing! She picks through my hair like a monkey looking for fleas! I want dreads... LOL don't think the job would approve... Or maybe since they let me have gauges and such! Then my kitten would really have a field day with my head!

I don't have any useful suggestions I don't think, other than are they long enough to tie them up somehow while you're sleeping?

I do sympathise, Sonic tries to eat my (long but not dreadlocked) hair while I am asleep, and Radar has a bit of a thing for dreadlocks - I have 2 friends with long dreads and when he was little he would get so excited that he would grab them with his mouth and swing backwards and forwards on them

Kittens

Maybe tying a bandanna around your head to minimize how much they move around will discourage the kitten some? That or some other cap or scarf tied around them.

Sorry, I was interrupted in the middle of.......Any way, play with her with your hair. Kinda overload the hair play, "drown her in dreads" So she is a bit taken back, has to question the "hair play" game next time........No one wants rejection when looking for comfort, affection, so try giving her some one on one play time before going to sleep, let her understand the difference between time to play and time to sleep. She is just a kid/kitten!

Maia, now 1 year 2 months, still will grab my hair playfully if it hanging over the side of the bed, but she knows bedtime, and I love her for that! Sometimes I wake to hear her digging in her toy bowl, entertaining herself if she is not sleepy when I am sleeping!

thanks for the replies!
and ya, i realize she is still just a baby, which is why even if i did have the option, i really don't think i could leave her in another room when she wants to play. i'm just scared that she will treat my hair as toys when she grows up and then do some significant damage.
but i really like the idea of "drowning her in dreads."
maybe that's why she looks at me as if confused, because i will play with her with my hands or when a toy is involved, but not my dreads.
and i suppose this is why i couldn't keep her off my bed when she was refusing to use the litterbox, because she wanted company and really had no intention of making my bed a place where she does her "business", if you will.
