I applaud these bikers for their effort against what is probably the most radical and disgusting group I have ever heard of in my time on this planet. I am ashamed that our freedoms in this country allow this to go on....

I read about this group today, they are also planning to march at the VT student funerals... I cannot believe they call themselves Westboro Baptist Church. I would sue them for defamation if I was the true Baptist church.

I hate to post links to such garbage as their website, so I didn't. If you google "Westboro Baptist Church" you'll find what is probably the most twisted stuff on the web belongs to them.

I am very disappointed.

Sometimes it's a shame you can't just use one smiley anymore because all I have to say about this is:

What animals. Actually, no, I shouldn't insult and degrade animals by comparing them to these disgusting excuses for humanity.

Don't google them then, Sarah. You might really really freak out. I did.

Out of all the religions, baptist are and take things to the extreme at times. I attended a baptist church for a short time and stopped going because I knew something was terribly wrong in that church. I also attended a baptist university(not by choice) and it wasn't much better there. So my opinion of them are not very respectable and displays like these do not surprise me.
I have met very few baptists who I could tolerate and agreeably like. I certainly hope that someone puts a stop to it soon.

Although I have not had the ability to attend a funeral yet with my motorcycle, I did join the Patriot Guard and support their efforts to protect families from these disrespectful, hurtful, hateful people who use God's name in support of their actions.

And it is not all Baptists that act this way. It is just a relatively small but vocal group that knows how to get attention. And how to hurt.

From what I read in another article from our local forums http://forums.the-dispatch.com/eve/f...5/m/7241046816 they are NOT affiliated with the Baptist Church. They are doing their own thing.

BE ADVISED THAT LINK HAS SOME LINKS TO THEIR WEBSITES, WHICH ARE AWFUL.

Almost every member of this church is from one family who has decided they know what's best. They have a warped view of the world and don't seem capable of being kind or loving the way Christ preached.

Is this the same group that pickets gay pride marches? I haven't heard of this happening out here in Portland. If it does, I'll be there. Can you imagine the laughter and love that does NOT happen at the Phelps family get-togethers? Would be an interesting study in brainwashing and terrorism, I'm sure. I really feel for the children exposed to all that undiluted hate.

I'm sorry you feel this way. I grew up Southern Baptist and nothing was wrong with my church. :/

But the group isn't affiliated with the baptist church at all. They just call themselves baptists, but are not supported by any baptist association. They are a sick and twisted group with a horrible agenda.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church

"While its members identify themselves as Baptists, the church is an independent Baptist church not affiliated with any known Baptist conventions or associations. The church describes itself as following Primitive Baptist and Calvinist principles."

I too grew up in a Baptist church, and this is the first time I have EVER heard of Baptist being "extremists" or acting in such a way. Please know that although they call themselves Baptist, this is in no way what the Baptist religion is like.

I hate that they call themselves Baptist, even though they state that they are in no way affiliated. I hope that this doesn't cause anyone to think badly of the religion as a whole.

i dont even no wat to see what is wrong with some people

but to the bikers, thats so wonderful what they are doing and everything
post #13 of 33
I also attend a Southern Baptist Church, and like a few other posters have said, not all Baptist are like the protesters.

Baptist are very kind, caring and loving people.

I refuse to give their website anymore hits.

Where I live it is very astounding what they preach and how they preach. Telling you what you can and can't do...etc. Not even being able to make your own choices. To me that is not religion..that is just brainwashing. That's why I stopped going and never will again. I knew a couple of people who were baptists and they were fine. I had no problems with them. Some people are just sick and twisted and want everyone to believe they are correct and no one else.

This is the same group that is marching at funerals for soldiers killed in Iraq. The governor of our state had to enact a law banning protests at funerals because of this group.

Vile, worthless turds!!
That's pretty sad that they can't even let those poor soldiers rest in peace! The family of those soldiers already have enough grief. They need to just leave them alone. They should do something that is productive, not destructive.

I will never understand the twisted logic or beliefs of groups such as these.

They are planning to march at VT Student's funerals? Why?
I think their excuse for marching at veteran funerals was something about the government supporting abortion, therefore anyone that serves the country should be protested against. I have absolutely no clue what twisted logic would cause them to march on VT funerals!

Probably some twisted logic that the sins of Gay America caused Cho to go on a murderous rampage.

If someone showed up at one of my family members funerals pulling that garbage i'd introduce them to my shotgun!!!!!!! I applaud the bikers for trying to be kind to the families amdists all those rude, henious people! I wonder if they consider how they would feel should someone show up and start protesting at a funeral of one of their loved ones.

I'm all for free speech, but there is a line that needs to be drawn somewhere less it cross ethical or moral ones.

My uncle rides with the Patriot Guard Riders, which is a wonderful organization of wonderful people- some vets, some just supporters. They try to make sure this psycho and his family aren't seen or heard during their 'protests'.

There is another group that has been counter protesting and I'm sure you will all get a kick out of them:

I say we all throw our support behind the motorcycle vets and the shrimp haters.
Ahhh yes Rev Fred! The man who showed up at Mathew Sheppard's funeral with protesters! To say this man is a Baptist is a true insult to all the wonderful Baptists that I've met.

I'm so glad the bikers are out there for the families. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm sorry you have not met any of the Baptists I have known - including me. They are not the extremists that get all the media coverage.

As for Westboro... About 4-5 were here for a soldier's funeral and you could not see them for the Patriot Riders in front of them. What gets me, is that they were planning to protest at the funerals for 10 members of a family that died in a house fire in Kentucky several months ago.
I knew that name rang a bell?!. The BBC had a documentry here a few weeks ago with Louis Theroux and i couldn't believe these people

Their a bunch of sick, ignorant, arogant people that don't deserve to draw breath

But good on the bikers!!

I have heard about this "church" before protesting at soldiers' funerals. Are they really going to protest the VT funerals too? That is just plain horrifying! Go Patriot Riders!!!

Sorry, but I have to respond to this too:

Have you ever been to a church that doesnt tell you what to do? Comparing the Baptist Church to this insane offshoot, the "Westboro Baptist Church" is like comparing Muslims to Al Queda or comparing Christians to the Branch Davidians in Waco.
