On the west side of... of... somewhere.
okay, I was under the impression that Catlover_ks was close enough to pick her up...

I have a friend in KC... but she's the same distance as you, obviously... that's the closest person I know of...

I joined another group (didn't have to wait for mod. approval for this one) for rescue/transport. I'm emailing now.

Y'know, it just doesn't seem right to type, "Hey, RubSlut, thanks for your help!"
But I do thank you -- I didn't even know until today that there was such a thing as a rescue transport group, but it certainly makes sense.

And Momofmany -- you say this kitty looks like your 8-ball? As you can see, she also looks a bit like my Clyde, and even more like Abby, Clydie's mom.
I'll be so glad when she's safe in that shelter's cat room.

White Cat Lover, I'm sorry -- I just realized I never answered your question: yes, I did talk to the shelter in Pittsburg and let them know we had a transport problem... but that was yesterday, so I'll check back with them in the morning, now that I've realized I should ask an individual staffer or volunteer. (I'm slow sometimes.
)

Again, thank you all so much for your moral support!

Let us know what the shelter says... I'll wait on my end for any response from the rescue transport group.

I first heard about rescue transport groups about a year or so ago, while living in Chicago. I can't remember, for the life of me, what the name of the other group was, but it was heartbreaking how little I could do from where i was for these cats and dogs they were trying to help. But there are groups out there, wiling to help pull critters from really bad kill shelters as long as someone, like a rescue or family, is able to take them in.

No worries about the name... I know it's a ... *ahem* ... questionable name, w/o the explanation (Jack's nickname is Rub ****, because he LOVES having his belly rubbed really hard... such a goofy cat).

Sounds like this girl might soon be on her way to a new life
I really hope one of you can help. Whoever decides to go PM me, I'd be happy to donate a lil gas money, since I'm too far to help.

Ditto! Count me in.

I posted on the other thread concerning this kitty, so will ask the same question here. Are you sure the owner still has her? I truly wouldn't put anything past someone who would treat a cat this way. My other thought is that once the owner realizes how badly someone wants her cat, she may decide to 'sell' her (actually, 'hold her for ransom' is more what I'm thinking). I pray someone can get the poor baby out of this situation.

Aw, y'all are the best! But no gas money will be needed! Here's what happened...

I've been on the phone all morning, calling shelters and rescue groups and police department animal control officers and veterinarians and, finally, pet stores in search of an animal lover who could give the kitty a ride to the shelter in Pittsburg. Finally, I called Pets & Pet Supplies in Independence and explained the situation to the owner, a wonderful woman named Becky, who apparently is a one-woman animal rescue agency.
I told her the kitty was a natural bobtail, white and black, seven years old, completely declawed... and she said, "I think I have a place for her. Hold on."

So I hear this loud whooshing noise, and over it, a shouted conversation... and 60 seconds later, Becky comes back and says, "Okay, my groomer's gonna take her!" Turns out her groomer is crazy about bobtails, and she's taking her in sight unseen!

So then I contacted the owner to see if she might be willing to drop the kitty off -- it's only ten miles -- and she emailed right back to say that she will indeed take the kitty over there, and in fact, she knows Becky!

So now I'm just waiting for a confirmation email saying the transfer has been completed... and then I can relax again.

Is this great or what? "Now we are so happy we do the Dance of Joy!"

CP that is WONDERFUL news! I am SO glad the groomer is going to take her. I just know this poor girl will have a nice life now and be taken care of like she deserves!

You should have the pet store lady and the groomer visit us here at thecatsite! We would love to see a picture of the kitty in her new home

Yay!

I know we can't save them all, but isn't it nice to save one? I'm anxious as well to know that the transfer has been completed. Do we even know this cat's name??

What a great idea, Alley! I'll invite them both!

And Catlover, no shame -- I wouldn't even have known about the kitty if you hadn't posted about her.

And let us not forget Momofmany, who was prepared to come all the way down from Kansas City if necessary to give the kitty a ride!

Maybe we should form a club... the TCS Long-Distance Rescue League...

There's no place like home

I just got home from work and got caught up in all of this.

Carol - you are the best. Truly you are!!! I know the energy you put into calling all around and trying to make arrangements for this girl.

And Catlover - you brought this to our attention and tried your hardest to find her a home. I've been in rescue enough to know that sometimes it takes a collective effort to get things done. One person isn't enough.

So......I guess I can stay up late and party with my friend who's birthday is today!! I'll sip a margarita for all of you and to the gorgeous bobtail tuxedo who is now in Independence KS.
