For the past year DH has been in processing for a US gov't job. He's done it all from the app, interview, medical exam, polygraph, and background check. We've been at it for about 9 months. He had recieved a "Conditional Offer Letter" that could be rescinded anytime during processing. We were so hopeful as this job would double his pay and we could finally start thinking about starting a family.

Today we got a letter saying the offer was rescinded. No explanation why.
He was in the last step of processing! They said something had come up that made him unsuitable for employment at this time.

We are so upset and feel like we've wasted almost a year of time on this opportunity. We thought he was a shoe in after he got the offer letter.

What a crappy day.

Oh wow! That must be devastating. I don't think they should be allowed to string people along for 9 months!

Best of luck in the job hunt... my husband just went through it, so I know how you feel. Sending vibes!

They could have at least gave an explicit explanation! Not just say "something came up".

Sending good luck vibes that something better comes along.

Isn't there some kind of provision for that situation that requires them to explain the issue if you ask? I'm not sure... but it seems like I heard such a thing...

If they told you, they would probably have to kill you.

Seriously though, I'm sorry he didn't get it, but don't give up. Getting your foot in the door with federal jobs is SO hard. I've tried. I work for a federal contract (no federal benefits but all the headaches) and have been trying to get an actual federal job. But its nearly impossible. I honestly think it's who you know....and well, you know the rest.

But, tell him not to give up. If he made it this far, he probably is already on the radar. You may want to try to find out exactly why he was denied. Good luck!

An ex bf passed all the tests for the fire department, but when it came to the actual interview there was a subject he failed on but they told him where he went wrong just incase he wanted to reapply.

I am sure there is. In time he may email and ask. They said the decision they made could not be appealed. But an email to his recruiter may be in order to find out exactly what area it was where he went wrong.

We thought he'd be a shoe in since his dad worked for the same organization for 30 years.

But like someone else said when one door closes another will open. He put in two more job apps last night so we'll see where that takes us.

We're fortunate that he has a stable job, just not one that allows him to move up in the company so we're looking for others.

Thanks again for all the support!

I'm sorry to hear that
I would contact them and see if you can get an explanation why they decided that. Hope he can find something else he wants equally as much.
