Just a minute ago there was a very loud knock at the door...so i put the dogs in a sit/stay command then looked out the peep hole to see who it was (i will not open the door for someone i do not know.) as usual, it was the ups dude....he was in his truck by the time i opened the door and was driving off. So i looked to see what he left behind.....apparently Colin ordered some interesting stuff from Office Max. One box is weird and i can't tell what's in it but it makes a lot of noise when you shake it
The other one - well, it's just amusing! He bought an adjustable foot rest??
What in the world!! There is obviously no place for it in the living room....so i'm guessing he got it to put under his computer chair when he plays his computer games
I was starting to wonder if he had a pc problem- now i know
An adjustable foot rest???
That's kinda random!
Hehe now that i see what kinda weird random thing he ordered today, i totally don't feel bad ordering a few things from LUSH and Plain Brown Tabby
Hehe i will be ordering shortly! Guys can be soo weird
I swear he buys more random things than any chick i know

Ha! Sometimes typos really enhance a post! I thought he had bought an adjustable food rest for under his computer chair... presumably to serve kittyfood on...

Maybe it WASN'T a typo but a Freudian slip.

Oh gosh, the leg lamp mention reminded me of the most bizarre thing I ever got on eBay...

Back when I had a little money, I used to collect those wonderful glass insulators from old telephone lines, hydroelectric dams, etc. Most people know the greenish-blueish ones that are most common, but there are thousands of styles and colors to rival the most gorgeous art glass. I still love 'em.

Anyway, I was involved in a website for insulator collectors, and we were all avidly searching eBay all the time... and I ran across this Thing. It was on a wooden base, and it stood about two feet tall. It was a sort of short tower made of some sort of hardened clay, painted orange... and it had several small toll-style insulators in clear glass set into it sideways, symmetrically, sticking out all around. At the bottom front was a little round-topped hole, through which one inserted a small ceramic lamp base with a 40-watt bulb in it.

So it was, ostensibly, a lamp. But we all continued to call it simply... the Thing.

It was altogether the ugliest Thing I had ever seen, and I of course drew the attention of my fellow collectors to it. We all puzzled over what its creator could possibly have had in mind, and after awhile, I became so curious that I emailed the seller and asked him if he knew the history of the Thing. He did not -- it had been left behind after a church yard sale -- but we both had fun speculating, and traded a few emails over it.

When the auction ended with not a single bid, the fellow packed the Thing up and sent it to me as a gift!
Amazingly, it arrived intact... and it was even more hideous in person than its picture had led me to expect. A truly wretched sight to behold. My friends on the insulator site warned me that it must surely harbor demons, and I would be forever cursed by the insulator gods for owning it.

Not long after that, another collector and I had the idea of holding a little contest for who could use the most insulator-related words in a one-page story, with the Thing as the prize! Astonishingly, the guy who won actually wanted the Thing, so I had to part with it. ~sigh~

I kinda miss the Thing.

Over the river and through the woods...
A foot rest is nothing! Last fall DH was on ebay and when I walked by he informed me he put a bid on something. It went something like this:

"what did you bid on?"
"A 4-wheeler but I probably won't win it because there's only 10 min left on the auction."
"And...ummm...how much?"

LONG pause....

"Baby, how much??"

"$3500.00....but I won't win it. People always save their bids for the last minute......."

9 minutes later....

"Honey, guess what....."

So, we now have a 4-wheeler. Granted we were looking at them and we did have the money. He actually got it at a good price. But, I did tell him from now on we have to discuss any purchases made before hand! Unless its a present for me of course!

I knew people collected those but I didn't know anyone was that serious!
I think my dad still has half a dozen or more. Around here people give them away, sell them at garage sales, flea markets, or you can find them in dumps. I've mostly just seen the green and clear ones.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the Thing anywhere would you? It sounds crazy.
