i'm not sure if it means the same as we do when we smile, but i think they smile. fosters and kojak always seem to when i scratch their heads or talk to them.

it'd be nice to think that they really were smiling and they felt happy like we do
maybe cats 'smile' becasue their whiskers are so far forward...i heard that when they are reeeall happy they push forward hehe

or maybe too much gas!

I believe cats smile....but it takes real contentment...I don't think they can force a smile the way we can.... I have seen my 2 smile.

Kitty smiles but I couldn`t find a picture so here`s one of him giggeling instead.

He smiles alot in his sleep for some reason.

Under the cats, mostly.
I'm convinced they smile - maybe not very noticably, but I'm fairly sure that my pair do! There are very subtle changes in a cats face that only an owner would pick up on, I think!

Where whiskers abound.
Yes! My dog smiles.
I know I was not imagining it, I saw him smile.
And when in a certain mood, my cats smile too. I had to look three times, and sure enough, the edges of their mouths curled up into a smile. I thought, this is weird.

The moment I begin to stroke Clyde's head, he closes his eyes, pushes his head up into my hand, and turns on his purr. To me, that's a smile! But sometimes there does seem to be a little upturn to the corners of the mouth, too, and that's a lovely thing to see.
