Under the cats, mostly.
The papers over here are plastered with it just now - they say that over thirty people have been killed. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives

I know I might sound contrary, but my thoughts and prayers also go out to the shooter and his family. I don't understand what could drive a person to that kind of insanity, but it must be awful. I choose not to judge him, God will do that.

God bless them, and forgive the man who shot them. If we can all love in the face of hatred, the world can be a better place.

I am watching it on the news again today, I can hardly believe it. I feel so sad and awful for all the victims, what the families must be going through. So many bright futures gone. Gosh, its awful. I really do feel for everyone involved and much love and sympathy goes out to them.

I am keeping all of the people involved and affected by this in my prayers. Several of my friends go to VA Tech.
I talked to two of them yesterday- i was absolutely frantic until i was able to get ahold of them and know they were ok- it was a blessing. I know at least two of my friends are comming home to Memphis eithor later this week or this weekend to be with family and friends after all of this once they are able to. I am planning to spend some time with them when they are able to come to town. They're very upset as can be expected. I can't imagine what it was like to be on the campus
My heart goes out to them all and to the families of the victims.

Well I'm sure everyone knows about the shooting. 33 dead plus another 20 something wounded. I was just watching date line which is something that I NEVER do except for something like this.

Victims, family, friends and colegues are all in my thoughts and prayers!

Found out yesterday my first "boyfriend" ever (in the grade school kind of way) was one of the ones killed. I can't imagine how horrible this is for the parents.

I don't know if anyone else has caught this interesting detail but the shooter was from South Korea and he had immigrated into the US in just 1991.

That explains a WHOOOOOLE lot, and it makes it very clear who's to blame. It was his parents. Asians, and South Koreans in particular put an absurd about of pressure on their children to exceed academically, to the point or ridiculousness (You must get 100% in every single subject, if not you will be beaten). If you don't become a doctor or a lawyer, you're trash. If you drink or smoke, it means you're in a gang and you'll be beaten. You can't date anyone unless your parents say ok (unless you're the age of 25 or older that's going to be a "if you do, you will be beaten"). You must live with your parents until you are married, and after you are married and have a job you will support your parents until they die, if you don't you're an ungrateful child. That's the kind of mentality they have. It's no wonder they snap. Asian girls don't get as much pressure, because the parent's are more worried about getting them married off.

I hear some parent's even send their kids in for a tongue operation (they cut the ligament that holds the tongue to the mandible) believing that it will help them speak english without an accent.

In South Korea, things like this happen everyday. There's always some guy who snaps and kills his girlfriend, or his parents, or commits suicide, or goes on a killing spree. Or they get so depressed they'll literally play video games without eating, or sleep, until they die. It's a cultural disease, inferiority complex. People need to chill out.

Ya but he was there as a english major, and they even said he was depressed and such and everyone spoke so kindly of his parents who own a dry cleaners, so im not sure if u can put the blame on the parents who had no idea, can u imagine how they are feeling right now? And also did u hear the tapes that he sent, i understand this happens in other countries and such but this is America they came here to make a better life, and they did! The son had to get help which he didnt get fully! So many kids are depressed and its not even from being from a different country and such, and I am sure his parents wanted him to get good grades...what parents dont want their kids to succedd? But being depressed here is very common in America and most times it can be gentic and such! My brother suffers bi polar disorder and he inherited that from my grandfather! Also some people get wrapped up in games that arent even from here that happens here in America all the time! And sometimes it even kills them. But u really cant put the blame on the parents for this, neighbors spoke out about the parents and how nice they were and they helped the neighbor who was pregnant carry her bags and everything in her house so she wouldnt strain anything! And he didnt even live with his parents he lived at the dorm. So I dont understand where u are trying to go with this, i have watched this around the clock and no one has really put the blame like that or said anything about it doing with his heritage! But what you put really didnt count on his behalf, he didnt live with his parents, he was an english major, his parents were already wealthy and didnt need him to take care of them! And depression is very popular in America! They had even gave statistics on it and stuff about the majority of college students that are depressed, so its not all that uncommon and sometimes people snap when they cant take it anymore and thats what he did unfortunalty he should have gotten the help when ever it was provided to him, he did have to go see someone due to the fact of his writings and such and they didnt want him back on campus until he was "better" He was very much of a loner and he didnt want to be bothered by anyone, often when depressed thats what happens u seperate yourself and everything from everyone else!

Still my heart goes out to all of those who were affected by it, it was such a horrible thing and in a way i think it could have been prevented but thats something for IMO !!!

i dont think this thread was about looking to place blame on a race of people. It was done by person who did not get the help he need. who had a mental illness, and of a system that failed to do its job,

if you want to place blame then you place it on the person that did it.
any that is not what this thread is about

also i would like to add that since i lived in aisa for half of my adult life, i can tell you most of you post is wrong.

Well done, you succesfully managed to alienate a whole continent! Just because he was from South Korea does not mean all Asians are mentally ill

I think the question we have to be asking here is why didn't he get the treatment for his illnesses? They noticed something was wrong when they read his essays, but appear to have done very little about it.

Such a shame, such a waste.

I've come to the conclusion that the cable news services are the most ratings grabbing bunch of sickos that have ever polluted a TV screen. We have Fox news in the cafeteria at work, and all that had on, ALL night, looping again and again was that whining little murderous coward's tape he made of himself. When I got home this morning, I called Dish Network and told them that they were fired....and that they can get their money from the murderous perverts that they are obviously catering too.

What a horrendous thing to happen! All of those lives cut short - what a tragedy! My heart goes out to the families of those slain as well as the survivors and what they will have to live with the rest of their lives!

Being a South Korean myself, I speak from personal experience and from friends' and relatives' accounts. Although many deny it, parental pressure is a real and serious problem in South Korea. Fortunately for me, I was able to run away from it all once I got into college, though there are friends that I've had who bear lingering scars from the abusive relationships they've had with their parents.

Also, most Koreans won't get help for a mental illness, they won't admit they have a mental illness, going to see a psychiatrist is a shameful thing.

I'm not trying to alienate anyone, I'm just trying to expose an issue that people normally don't know about and is usually not reported.

My sincerest condolences go to the families and friends of those killed. And also to the students who survived the shooting rampage. This was a horrible tragedy and it will take a very long time for them to recover.
