Shooting at Virginia Tech

The breaking news thing says there is a gunman loose on Virginia Tech's campus, and for everyone to stay inside. I hope they catch him quickly, supposedly he's already killed someone in a dorm.

This is the second one this year. What is going on?

That is so scary. I read on MSNBC that there is one confirmed dead in the dorm room shooting. My prayers are with everyone at that school.

This is just nuts. I'm still about what Chris Rock said (via Farenheit 9/11):

Don't make the price of guns go up...make it so that bullets are $5000 each. Then if you're really mad at someone (or something) you have to work your butt off in order to kill someone.

This is just crazy.

Latest news is saying 21 dead including the gunman.

My niece is there, and I can't get a hold of her on her cell or home phone. I called my sister and mother, but they can't get through, either.

22 are now confirmed dead. Wow, that number jumped in the last hour. I was reading 1 dead at 12:20 pm. Did the police start to evacuate? I'm trying to follow the news.

Do they know anything about the gunman? Student? Random person? I'm really surprised that VTech didn't lock down its campus after the August kill.

I hope your niece is okay. Hopefully she jsut ran an left her phone. REmeber that the cell phone network in the area will be jamed with police, family and media trying to comunicate. Stay positive and hope you can get through soon.


This is just horrable. It is bringing back memories of Columbine. My DH went there and we were living there at the time. It is just making me sick.

She's okay - she just called my sister. The phone systems are overloaded. Sorry to have hijacked the thread. I just about had a heart attack when the news broke.

They're reporting 29 wounded. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

Oh my godness. I just hear the news! I live about 4 hours away from campus and everything has been buzzing here. Everyone in this area knows SOMEONE who goes to Tech. Its just awful. I am about 4 years out of college so I don't personally know anyone there, but I think my sister has a few good friends that go there. Still waiting to hear from her to hear that everyone is ok. The numbers keep rising - hopefully they'll stop going up soon.

It was a male asion (sp) who went there to kill his grilfriend,and then went on a rampage and killed the rest,then himself.WHY?????????????? what is wrong with people? I live about 2 hours from VA tech.
