A lot of people who've tried in vain to wean their cats off dry food, or had to really tempt them to eat because of illness, have been successful with Fancy Feast. The brand definitely has its uses.

Same goes for my Annie. Took me a couple of years to wean her off a totally dry food. Now she has Innova dry and FF wet, occasionally Solid Gold tuna, but nothing else.

Im glad it worked for everyone! I hope my typing didn't come off harsh! Let me rephrase... I would never give the elegant medley line of FF to my cats! I had a very hard time converting one of my cats to wet and if I was givin a heads up (or for a treat) I would have tried FF, I probably just wouldn't give it as their constant and main food source (Personal Preference)! So no judgement here, just prefrence! I didn't knock my boss when she wanted it, I jut told her NO if it has wheat glueten or any risk/uncertainty to it! I ditched it just in case so none of her kitties have any issues!

My cats all love FF. Can anyone list the flavors that DO NOT contain Wheat Gluten? I may switch them to that instead, even though (so far) Purina has been safe on all cat product lines and I haven't noticed anything wrong with my cats , and they've always eaten purina (they also eat the Cat Chow Indoor Formula...the only dry food they will eat :| )

Can someone also reccomend an Indoor Cat formula that perhaps is a little more 'natural' ... I noticed corn gluten in the purina brand, and anything gluten right now is kind of scary.

Where whiskers abound.
For something different besides feeding my cats human tuna, I WAS going to get the FF liver/chicken and FF beef/liver, BUT, I did a Google search FIRST.

I typed this on Google: Fancy Feast sick ----and then proceeded to check out the different forums. Just read through some of these, some cats have gotten sick, mind you, some flavors of FF are not mentioned, but to be on the safe side no FF in my house.

Unfortunately Jacob and Löki won't eat any wet food except FF, and only 2 varieties of that! They do have Nutrience dry and Natural Balance dry, plus Jacob has his special Preventive food from the vet. Both seem to be fine, get good checkups from the vet. I would prefer they didn't eat the FF but it ws only in desperation that I tried it on them because they turned their noses up at everything else. Plus they will only eat the cuts and gravy types - grilled beef and grilled chicken. Must be the mouse enhanced flavour!

Ack! Dont' go the human tuna route!

(not sure if you were serious but I had to get that out!)

I have a guy who is addicted to Fancy Feast wet. This has been doubly tough because he went through tummy confusion during a recent attempt at food switching and refused to eat for a few days. I did cave and offer him some FF to stimulate his appetite--not on the recall, but really, what the hell does THAT mean anymore

I am following that *very* closely as my cats all had some ff wet a few times a week for the last few years.

well, while i won't say for certain it's not possible. I also take a grain of salt with things i read.

I think all foods are capable of making pets sick, it could be the ingredients don't sit well with them, an allergy.. or even just a delicate tummy to quick changes.

I'm still using FF, it's all the group will eat, nobody has become ill. their are no recalls on FF at all, of coarse i realize that guarantees nothing these days but on the whole i feel pretty comfortable with it. I have used it for more than 10yrs+ with my other two cats.. it wasn't however something i used with my ragdolls but despite my best efforts to try other foods since their Max/Nutro wet foods were recalled, it has been all that has worked

some of those FF postings are old too. the one about the FF & choking was a blog posting that was quite old. the owner of the blog even posted a comment on how suddenly that post was quite active.

i'm still feeding FF in our rotation. we are just using the gluten free pate style varieties. i'm also feeding Friskies poultry platter loaf, and some whiskas pate style. they like their "junk" in the morning.
just watch the labels and buy loaf style if you're nervous. that's what i am doing.

my guys are happy with "junk food" for breakfast, and healthy stuff later in the day. they don't seem to want to eat all healthy stuff though, so i'm ok with this arrangement. when we went all healthy food, i had a food boycott on my hands.

My cat is currently being fed purina (fancy feast is purina) and he is doing fine since Purina is not on the recall list due to them having their own factory. This could change but so far we really trust purina we are thinking of switching his brand to a more meaty brand because hes always hungry but we do give him fancy feast on holidays and he LOVES IT.We first got ours as a sample to but I dont know if I would reccomend feeding on a regular basis as a special event food its great

My cats occasionally have fancy feast...they will not touch any of the cuts and gravy ones anyway...but now, since the recall I make sure not to buy ANY food with wheat gluten in it. It scares me that while Onyx was recovering a few months back from anemia I gave him some of the nutro wet food...I won't buy that brand again. The vet recommended it to me.

My cats won't eat any Pate food. They don't like to lick their food, just chunky. I'm using Purina products, dry and wet.
