Teen stabs newborn infant!

Teen stabs her newborn infant. It was her own child!!!

Seriously....in MN we have the Safe Haven Law....like the article states. She could've left the poor baby at a hospital, no questions asked.

And how on earth did the mom not know her daughter was pregnant!?!?!? IMO, that's just sad that there didn't seem to be much of a mother/daughter realtionship.

We have baby safe haven laws here and they don't always work for whatever reason.

I'm absolutely disgusted by this "I was in a panic"...I can't even process the thought of how someone would do that.

we have those laws here also, but people still do that.
i think the last case around here was a teen mother tossed the new born in the river.

What gets me is that some of the safe haven commercials that we have had here in recent years are almost aimed at promoting people having unprotected sex just because they can take advantage of the law.

One such commercial went like:

Girl: I have something to tell you...

Boy: What is it?

Girl: I'm pregnant

Boy: Oh no, my life is over!

Girl: Wait! There is hope! There is baby safe haven!

Boy: Yay!

What a sad story.

My mom didn't know I was pregnant when I was sixteen. I lived in another province from her. My mom is amazing, but parents can't control everything and it's really hard to tell what the situation was because it doesn't put any real details in the story.

I wonder though, if she gave birth in the family house, what were the parents doing...it's all a little odd to me.

As a former "teen" mother, I don't understand why someone would rather kill their baby then give the child up? It's so sad. I hope that she is prosecuted and given the help she obviously needs.

ON the topic of unwed and or unprotected sex, I just think people blame the wrong things, mainly the girls in the situation (not this one_..ie. placing labels on them (slut, whore, etc) and hold them 100% responsible, but rarely do people go, well, what was the guy who helped make the baby's part in this?? Where is his accountability. She didn't get pregnant by herself.

That's horrible, there's always other options.

Reminds me. A few years ago in the small town I grew up in there was a 16 year old that was 6, maybe 7 months pregnant. The father 17-18 years old already had one baby with another girl, and apparently didn't want another.

He, his brother and a couple of other people kidnapped and killed her.
The really messed up thing is the brother, having met the person a few years before (small town, everyone knew everyone else -mostly)... the guy was not all there. Drug dealer, majorly into drugs himself and violent. Probably the instigator... He got off on a light sentence, 5 years.

You were in another province...this girl gave birth in her parents house(odd is right, just like you said!)! I wasn't trying to blame the parents....its just hard for me to understand as my mom & I are very close.

I always wonder about the dads....as they sometimes do not "step up" ....or they pressure the girls to give up the baby. If they want no part, then have no part....let the girl decide if she want so keep the baby or place it up for adoption.

She stabbed the baby over 100 times? How can you possibly even physically do that?

I am normally sympathetic with people in these situations, because you never know what their lives are like, there are often underlying psychiatric reasons and so forth.

But this case just horrifies me. At 17, she was old enough to be more resourceful. I have read quite a few pieces on situations where the mother completely disassociates herself from her pregnancy, denying it utterly, and then having no emotional connection to the child when it is born, leading to abandonment, usually. But violently stabbing your newborn to death? That doesn't seem at all to fit into this scenario.

She clearly needs help but I also don't think that wilful, or first degree, murder, is inappropriate in this case. That is a terribly cold and violent act - something is seriously wrong with this girl.

Not just over 100 times. She stabbed her own newborn baby 137 times.

Some people are just evil, just plain evil. I don't think they are sick or anything like that. They are just evil.

This is an awful item of news!

For sure, what she has done is an evil act. I know there is no excuse for killing your child (or any child for that fact). And she will have to pay the price a judge deems appropriate.

But does anyone know if she has a history of mental illness or was she suffering from post natal depression? Being pregnant at her age, hiding the pregnancy...it could have caused some kind of mentally-related issues/resentment towards the baby. These are likely issues the legal defense would raise.

This just angers me so much, because u are seeing more and more news stories these days about mothers killing their infant children

Also its not hard to hide a pregnancy ecpecially if u were big clothes, my one friend is still hiding shes pregnant from her mom and she lives with her but we all told her to tell her mom and she hasnt and her b/f really isnt much, neither of them have jobs but are having and keeping the baby I just wish she would tell her mom But she wont because its just like her mom and her well similar sort of situation adn she is 19!

But anywho...that whole story there just sounds a little odd, where was the parents during this? What kind of person can stab their new baby over 100 times

IMO this should be a strong case for involuntary STERILIZATION! She should never be allowed to have another child the rest of her life - not even to adopt! I'm glad she's being tried for murder and hopefully will be put away and get some treatment - but she shouldn't be allowed to get pregnant again.

I'm opening a whole new can of worms here....but I seriously doubt she'll truly get the help she needs in our prison system. Which makes this worse....without help...what's to prevent her from doing this again?

I can't believe someone can humanly stab another living being/thing over a 100 times! That would make me sick. I can't believe the mother didn't notice the weight gain also.

There was a famous case of this at my high school when my sister was there. Supposedly nobody ever knew she was pregnant (nobody yet has come forward and said they did know) and she wrote in a journal that she gave to my teacher about killing her baby... she came home from a fair and just did it and then went back.

From all accounts the girl was never quite all there and was obviously lacking something pretty serious. I *think* she was released from prison recently.

Something about a mother killing her own child seems to be the worst possible crime in our society. I don't disagree, but I don't think there have been cases yet where there was not all kinds of things seriously wrong in the mother's mind and life as well.
