My sister's cat had 6 kittens two weeks ago. One week ago she got out of the house and we have not been able to find her. My sister fed the kittens by bottle for a week, but she has a lot going on now and it was becoming very difficult and the babies were getting weak.

Last night she took them somewhere where there were a couple of cats that had had kittens. The only one that would take up with them was one that had 6 kittens maybe about a week ago. Will this cat be able to produce enough milk for all 12 kittens? She is a really small cat.

Also, any suggestions on how to get the other cat to maybe accept the babies? She only has 2 kittens that she had about 4 weeks ago.

Thanks!

That is a lot of pressure on that mother cat. I think that the best thing for you to do is find someone who would be willing to foster the kittens that has enough time on their hands to bottle feed them and make sure that they get the attention and nourishment they require that their mother obviously can't deliver.

I agree with msgoody2shoes, they really need the time & attention at such a young age

Can you contact any of the shelters that might have 'foster' details that they can put you in touch with - just a thought ?

Thanks for your replies. I have already spoken with 5 animal hospitals, 2 animal shelters, and 2 rescue organizations with no luck.

Would the mommy cat maybe be able to handle them for about a week until they might be able to drink the milk on their own?

usually the mother will have begin weaning them by about 5-6 weeks. Has she been offering them wet and dry food to see if they will eat it? I have never bottle fed kittens past 5 weeks of age, but then they usually do alright on solids.

does your sister realize that the mother, if she comes back, will most likely be pregnant again? She really should set an appointment for a spay/abort. This would be WAY too soon for her to have babies again. It could cost her big time if she goes through with it.
