I'm trying to make up a CD for my hubby (a small part of his birthday present) of the best 80's songs....rock, ballads, pop all included.

I need some ideas for the best songs to download..so what are your essential 80's tracks?

Any particular genre? Pop? Metal? R&B? Soul? New Wave?

Off the top of my head, the big artists in the 80s that I can think of...

Madonna (Anything off Like a Virgin or True Blue)
Prince (1999, Little Red Corvette, Purple Rain...)
Duran Duran (Wild Boys, Hungry Like a Wolf...)
Motley Crue (Home Sweet Home, Smokin' In the Boys Room)
Def Leppard (Photograph, anything off of Pyromania or Hysteria)
Bon Jovi (You Give Love (A Bad Name), Bad Medicine, pretty much anything from 7800* Farenheit)
Poison (Talk Dirty To Me)
A-Ha (King for Just One Day, Take On Me)
The Clash (Rock the Cashbah)

One Hit Wonders:

Kajagoogoo - Too Shy
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
Nena - 99 Luftballons
Timbuk 2 - Future's So Bright, Gotta Wear Shades
Yello - Oh Yeah
Boys Don't Cry - I Wanna Be a Cowboy
Georgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands to Yourself
2 Live Crew - Me So Horney
Taco - Puttin' On The Ritz
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Moving Pictures - What About Me

Got to do Hotel California, and also the song that lost out to it at the Grammies, Bridge Over Troubled Water...

Got to include some Elton John, many to choose from, he was on fire early in the '80s...

Got to do Elvis Costello, too, Allison, Veronica, Every Day I Write The Book...

Right smack in the middle of the decade, classic Springsteen, Born In The USA... title track, and Glory Days would be a great one, too...

Stevie Ray! Cold Shot or Couldn't Stand The Weather...

Oh, gosh, excuse me -- gotta rock!

Great suggestions so far!!!! Each time I read a song title, I start singing the words to myself!

I think its going to have to be a double compilation cd lol!

Those sites are pretty cool!

Oingo Boingo? Never heard of that I dont think (maybe I have but I dont recognise the title)...curious to hear it as it sounds quite funny lol

Video Killed the Radio Star by the Bugles (sp?)
My dad taught this song to me and my little sister. It was one of the first songs I learned to sing. We would sing it in the car. We were so little, I was in kindergarten and she could only sing the Ow-ah Ow-ah parts, because she couldn't really talk yet!
