Charges dropped in Duke "rape" case

While I have the utmost sympathy for rape survivors and anger and contempt for rapists, cases like this make it more difficult for REAL cases to be prosecuted. This woman should be prosecuted for false reporting.

From the beginning, this case was a media lynching, by the prosecutor. Mike Nifong was shamelessly pandering to potential black voters and is now being reviewed for possible disbarment, due to his handling of this case.

I'm glad that these young men chose to fight these spurious charges and hope that they are able to make good lives for themselves.

From what I understand by reading the article, the charges were not dropped as of Tuesday. They have also not been told if they will be going to trial. They are still waiting for the court to make the final call, which could come sometime tis week. Hopefully something will happen this week for everyone involved.

I think the whole thing is fishy. On all sides. I am not saying that all jocks are like this but statisticly jocks have gotten away with horrable crimes against woman because they play sports. Its just not on a college level but high school and at the pro level.

If she really made up the charges than sham on her and she should be punished. If these guys really did it then they need to be punished.

I personally think that even if we had clear proof that they did it, they would still get off with a slap on the wrist. Unfortunately it is how the justice system in our country now works. These are rich kids with a "future". They go to a top school and are athletes so they must be "good" kids. There is no way kids like that could ever do something like this, just like they never party. It was a rare thing for them to be getting together drinking. Right.

The prosecutor has been under suspicion for suppressing evidence that could prove the innocence of the players, and will likely be investigated by the bar which could lead to revocation of his license.

I'd like to see the REAL truth come out on this.

I saw the Attorney General's press conference while I was at lunch. ALL charges have been dismissed, he said that based on the evidence the 3 young men were INNOCENT (which is huge for them to say that). He also said that Nifong was a "rogue prosecutor" and there were no checks and balances in the process, and brought up the pending investigation by the Bar against Nifong. He also said that they will not be pressing charges against the accusor because they think that "she believes all of the different stories she has told". So basically, they don't think she has malicious intent with charging them. He is also requesting a new law be passed that would give the state Supreme Court the authority to remove prosecutors from cases under certain circumstances.

Being from NC I can say this - Nifong is an ambulance chaser. And if you are contemplating voting for John Edwards in the next presidental election, you will get the same thing.

There have been a TON of stories about this locally. All of which seem to agree that it was Nifong making a name for himself out of the whole thing.

I'm watching the press conferance on Court TV right now.
Talk about being presumed guilty, this is a perfect example!

Whoever said that the Woman should be brought up on charges...I agree 100%

I watched the press conference,too (nice of Arby's to keep the TV on CNN). These days, with DNA, Nifong's MISconduct of this case was reprehensible. From the lab reports, the accuser seemed to have everyone EXCEPT the lacrosse players' DNA on/in her.

lol does not really matter, if they are gulity or not now. From posts i have seen and other stuff i have been reading, a large % of people will always see them as gulity. Now they will always have this doubt over them. many of them lost there final season, a person lost his job over this.

If i was player who had done nothing wrong here but was accused, i would be going after the women, the police, Nifong,and even the press. they had proof just a few weeks into this whole mess that the players were not gulity of what they were being charged with.

Yes, lots of people think they are rich punks who got away with something. That was Nifong's angle as well....

The attorneys said they weren't interested in bringing charges to the woman. Afterall, she wasn't the one who kept the prosecution going after her story kept changing. However, I'm sure she could be charged with something like falsifying a police report, but her name has never been mentioned before and it would probably be hard to prove that she was just seeking attention and that she knew this was how it would turn out.

From what I have heard the woman is mentally ill, what could possibly be served by going after her?
Go after Nifong and his henchmen and sue the pants off of them all. What humiliation for that state.
