I posted this in the sticky, but I wanted everyone to see it. If I've gone overboard, mods please feel free to delete it

This just in...contrary to what Menu foods has been saying for weeks, a part of the contaminated shipment of wheat gluten did indeed cross the border into Canada. The Menu Foods Canadian facility is now involved in the pet food recall. Menu foods has updated their recall site with the particulars.

It has just gone beyond horrible.

I was reading where one chains of vets offices( they di dnot say how many pffices they had), said they had treated about 39000 animals. that just one chain.

Most of the stores near me removed those products anyway as they don't always come from the Canadian plant to the stores here (and they probably just couldn't be bothered checking every label at the time, there is still many empty shelves in the stores)

The addition of all those Nutro cans is worrying however as so many people feed them and thought they were safe!

They just added another food on the list too..The medi-cal by Royal Canin that the vets sell.

I am getting quite sick and tired of this recall. All the poor babies

I'm feeding only Meow Mix wet to my two, and Ferris' loose stools problem has completely disappeared. It started at the end of Dec into Jan-Feb, and during those times he was being fed Nutro and S/D wet, in addition to Pro Plan and a couple of others.

Coincidence? I'm thinking not. I'm just glad that I switched out his foods every day or two (still do, with no problems now that it is just MM) because I think that may have prevented him from becoming seriously ill, and because he is young and robust, I'm hoping that any damage that may have occured is reversing itself.

I will have him tested in Sept at his annual, just to be sure and to get a baseline on his kidneys.

They are now eating Nature's Variety Raw Instinct for dry, and they seem to be thriving on it. I wish that MM wasn't so fish heavy, but I feel that it is safe right now, and would rather have him eat that than no wet at all.

one of my cats has always had a sensitivity to those gravy foods. he can't have more than 1 meal per day of them or he got the runs. of course, now it's a non-issue since i'm not feeding anything with wheat products in them. i just wanted to share that with you.

Ferris was only getting about 1.5 ounces of the wet per day at the time, and has no problems eating a wide range of foods, and the vets had no idea why he was having such loose stools at the time. Bene bac helped, but it wasn't until I started giving him JUST the MM that his stools hardened up again.

Oh, and he does eat the MM Chicken & Liver, which DOES have wheat gluten in it, but he shows zero ill effects from it, so at this point the best conclusion I can reach is that since I was feeding him the tainted brands during the period in which cats and dogs were getting sick and dying, that this HAD to be the reason his stools were so loose.
