Like Beandip, I'm very mindful of the language used in company statements. Lots- in fact most- of the statements from companies regarding this recall are puposefully vague. In the end, you must use your own logic and best judgement. One of the only wet foods Wally likes (he's very picky) is made by a company that says they a) weren't affected by the recall, b) don't use wheat gluten, and c) don't source ingredients from China. They've never explicitly said they don't use Menu. But I'm choosing to be ok with them, for now.

And to keep this thread on topic, YES I'd feel comfortable feeding Wellness dry and canned, if Wally would eat it.

I don't know how available it is where you are but I feed Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul Dry. I used to feed Iams (only for about a month) and then learned about Chicken Soup. It is actually less money for more food than the Iams was. It is not affected by the recall. I also feed Natural Balance wet and Chase absolutely loves both foods.

Here you go:

"Canidae (verified by company 3/28/07)

Brands include Canidae and Felidae
No products made by Menu Foods
All ingredients are grown in the US and are also processed here.
No wheat gluten is used in their products.
All products are free of corn, wheat, soy and all grain fractions "

I'll mention that 3rd party info from thepetfoodlist.com is no more reliable than info from me. I'll keep it at that as we are hijacking trixie's thread.

I tried giving Tiger a little bit off Wet Food (Felidae) that i bought yesterday. He licked it quite a few times and that was it! He will not eat his healthy weight food anymore if kitten food is out! He yells at me whenever Nollee's dry food dish is empty! I don't want to waste the food but he isnt into his weight management food and I want to get him on something else! So his meal consists of her kitten food no matter how much I try stopping him, it is what he wants! I started the kitten on wet food last night and she loved her felidae... but this morning when I went to feed her she wanted nothing to do with the wet food and wanted dry... Such kitty frustration!

My kittens were not fund of Felidae for the first two days and now I see them all over it. Maybe if you try another time and see if she likes it. My kittens loved Innova they were all over me but since it's made at Menu I returned it and now they are stuck with Felidae only. However I am thinking to either order Merrick canned food or Netural Balance to rotate their Felidae canned food. I will keep them on Felidae from this point on unless they don't want to eat it anymore. I agree there are not that many companies out there that don't use Menu but I will do my best to stay away from anything that's made by that company.

Im sure Nollee will become accustom to a wet food only diet but at this time evening is the only time she desires it! In the morning she see's me fill Tigers Bowl with dry food and she wants to have the same thing he is having...

A Wellness rep informed me that a small percentage of Wellness is made at a Menu plant, but not the one implicated in the contaminated food.

The rep is a TCS member. Her name is "Welcat" if you'd like to PM her.

I feed Wellness (along with other brands). My babies are fine.

I would NOT recommend Merrick. I used to feed it until I started finding pieces of plastic in it (both pieces of blue plastic and clear plastic, which would have been more difficult to see had it not been almost 2'' long) as well as an almost 1'' bone, sharp as a knife on both ends. These things were found in different cans of various flavors. Other TCS members have found plastic in Merrick as well.

Merrick has their own website. I don't know of any stores that sell this food in Chicago area either. You can order it and they even have free shipping right now. I don't know much about their food other than it's made here in the US and is not made by Menu. I am sure someone here already feeds this food and can give more information on it. I don't beleive they have dry food it's only wet food.

I believe at this point you are the one that's hijacking this thread and btw. I don't remember you suggesting Felidae I posted the link for her and was one of the first once to respond. If you are trying to pick a fight do it somewhere else. Everyone is already annoyed with this food situation.
