Go Bulan ! Exciting weekend.

GK's posts reminds me you guys say Lynxpoint for tabbypoints. The only time I hear that used is for Ragdolls, as they are an American breed. I hadn't thought about that with my first post, so it should've read blue lynx point Birman. You'll train me yet. (although I don't think I'll be calling dEUS seal lynx anytime soon, too used to sealtabby)

Is it a blue lynx point?

Oh, and you cat geneticists--is the gene that makes Birmans' white feet the same as the one that causes the typical DSH color-and-white pattern? Or is it a different one? How come it's just the feet?

The cat geneticists are still out on that one
There is a theory that a "gloving gene" exists, but the other theory is that the gloving is just a product of rigorous selection for low-grade white spotting caused by the S-gene, the same genen that causes "and white" in different breeds. To make things more difficult while breeding Birmans (or other breeds with white spotting) the exact amount of white on cats is not just determined by genes, but also by the development of the embryo in the uterus (pigment cells "march down" from the top of the embryo, which is why cats are often dark on top and white on their bellies, and cats with white backs and coloured bellies are almost impossible). Two breeding cats can have perfect markings, that is no guarantee their offspring will have the same. In the show ring and in books you will only see the show quality Birmans while there are also a lot of pet quality cats out there with very different markings, I've even seen Birmans with white spots on their faces.

This is the litter dEUS came from (second kitten from the right), he is show quality, you can see not all other kittens have the same gloves as he does. On their back feet they have the laces and I know one of the kittens has a loose white spot there, which is a fault.
