The "chocolate spotted aby" is an Oriental SH. I'm thinking brown spotted tabby OSH. Tho I'd like to have darker markings. If its not a brown tabby, then it has to be a chocolate spotted OSH. I'd have to look up the colors on them.

The other one in question, if its a silver tabby, it should have more silver/white under coat even with the brown tarnishing. I'd really have to see more of the back rather then the tummy side to tell you what it is. Brown tabbies have so much color variations. And browns also have BLACK stripes on a brown background.

Adilah - post the "hard" pictures!
or do you need to call them up again for those pictures?

and btw there is a "chocolate spotted aby" - its called a chocolate spotted ocicat!!!!! pffft!

I originally thought Ocicat too, but do they have that "wedgie" of a head? The color sure looks like GK's Charlie and Sadiemom's. Sadie. The head throws me off, looks more oriental type.

Chocolate Silver Ocicat.

Chocolate Silver Ocicat.
Yeah, that long neck and smaller head threw me off too. I'm thinking maybe Egyptian Mau now. Maybe bronze in color or silver, I don't think they have a brown color.

The slendar cat is an oriental shorthair - but I'm not positive on the color - I say brown spotted tabby - but would need to look up OSH colors to find the correct one.

Neither of the last 2 pictures are ocicats

Sort of like the ginger and yellow tabbies are the bad version of the Red tabby and are called Red tabbies.

I had read somewhere that to determine the color gene of a tabby, look at the color of the stripes on the tail and legs. That would make it the black gene.

Can anyone answer this question? why Brown tabby instead of Black or Silver.
My cat registry doesn't use brown tabby but black tabby, because the cat is genetically black.

I don't know why people use brown tabby. Tradition ? Someone once explained to me that yes, these cats are genetically black but the "black" gets a little browner than solid black, and when you show a cat fenotypically (what it looks like) instead of genotypically (what it is genetically) it should be brown tabby. I had a good look at my black tabbies and yes, their black is kinda brownish, but it seemed correlated to their amount of rufism ? (rufism is the way phaeomelanin - red pigment - is expressed) It wasn't an explanation that satisfied me so I'll rather use black tabby.

Hon, I'd love to post those seriously hard ones...but we're already having trouble with the "hard" ones!!! The next one will be one of your HARD ones ok!!!

Now, Qualifier - An Oci is made up of Siamese, Abys and American Shorthairs... so you just can't call them choc spotted abys really can you???

Ok, the background makes some sense to me. I do see the true brown tabbies and they jump right out at me as a Brown. Maine Coons seem to have this color a lot.

This seems to be the most logical color explanation for me. I would rather call that kitty a black tabby than a brown.

I will post some photos in the Fur pics section of my Conan. Would you to like to come discuss his colors with me? Don't want to Highjack this thread

BTW Mimosa you have stunning cats too!

Ebony tabby spotted Oriental Shorthair

My brother had the most beautiful and sweet Choctabby spotted Oriental but they had him as an only cat and his cries for attention drove his girlfriend crazy. The little guy was clearly unhappy on his own. They rehomed him yesterday, I'm gonna miss him. (why they didn't get a second cat is beyond me, but I know he's gone to nice people with a lot of cats who'll make him happy)

I love this game, i'll probably get a lot wrong (like confusing lilac with blue - again) but it's good practice. I'll also learn the names CFA uses because I've noticed I've learned them differently.
