Hey everybody, I'm curious about how much sleep you need to really feel rested the next day. I got to bed later than usual last night (around midnight) and got up at 6:00 a.m., which is the normal time on work days. So, I got around six hours of sleep. I really need more like 7 or 8 to really feel rested. I'm dragging today even after two cups of coffee (and some chocolate!)

I know some people can get by on that, but guess I'm not one of them.
How about you?

Because my workday is 13 hours of physical and mental use, I need at least 7 hours to feel like I am not "dead" at work..I have gone on less sleep than that and have really regreted it..

I need 8 to 9 hours every night, but take more if can get away with it. I think I'm still making up for the deficit from when I was a child and quit sleeping entirely. (Long, abusive story you don't want to hear.)

I need 8-9 to feel good. I don't function well on 6-7 (or less).

To actually feel rested? 8-9 hours. I'm happiest when I can sleep 11 hours. When I was pregnant I had to get 11 hours of sleep every single day or I was useless.

The LEAST amount of sleep I can get and still function normally is 7 hours, anything less than that and I am draaaaaging. If I get 6 hours of sleep, I start to literally pass out around 3-4 p.m., almost as if I was drugged.

I also cannot fall asleep easily (it takes around 20 minutes at minimum) and am a VERY light sleeper, although I do not snore or have sleep apnea, so it isn't like I'm not sleeping well when I am asleep. I think it is difficult for me to shut my brain down well enough to get below the first two levels on consciousness.

Well last night I slept for 13 hours...I was so tired and stressed out from this whole house thing so my body decided I needed sleep.

Usually it varies between 4 and 8 hours depending on what I work the next day.

I'd LIKE to have at least 8 hours but that's not a possibility so I function well on 4 hours and ALOT of coffee.

I can't function on all thrusters unless I get 7 to 8 hours per night. But I have a sleep disorder (nightmares & terrors & stuff), and am on medication which helps to put me past that first 'drop off' of sleep.

If I get less than 7 I am freakish the next day; memory problems, balance problems, head feels like a giant brillo pad. Coffee only helps for like, 5 minutes.

My husband however can survive on like 4 hours if he wanted to.

I need a lot- i am always tired. Right now i'm up every 2-3 hours feeding my foster kittens not to mention pulling really long work hours at the shelter every day -so i stay exhausted. Even on the rare occassion when i'm not fostering and get to sleep through the night- i still feel tired when i wake up after 7-8 hours- i need at least 10 but that never happens
I also have some potassium problems so that makes it worse. I'm going in this afternoon for another blood tests to check my potassium -so hopefully they'll get me on some potassium pills again and that will help

in a pile of open toed shoes!
alot more than I get.... I require about 8-10 hours, DH can get by on 6 easy.... We get to bed for about 10 hours, but I only sleep about 5-6 hours out of that. I toss & turn all the time.... And after I get comfy, Louie will come & sit on my back, so I can't move, then my arm goes numb & tingly while he takes his evening bath....try sleeping while he sits on you constantly moving & licking & grooming.... that takes about 30 minutes, then he finally settles in....
He also wakes me up before my alarm....but he doesn't try to wake me, he comes in to cuddle & to wait patiently till Momma gets up.
He sits perched high on my back, and waits on my shoulder blade, staring down at me 4 inches from my face.... How can one sleep when being stared at?!

Hmm... I prefer about 8 or 9 hours. Last night I got about 7 hours, maybe more like 6 considering how many times I woke up, and I'm functioning fine, and the night before last I only got 6 hours and that was okay too. But I can't do too many of those nights, or I become a very cranky teacher.

I'm not really sure how much sleep I need to be honest.

I've been so sleep deprived for years from sleep apnea that I haven't really had a true uninterupted nights sleep in who knows how long.

Recently I had a sleep study done and now have a CPAP machine that I use at night. I find that after 4 hours if I wake up I feel rested. But that's probably not indicative of how much sleep I need to feel totally rested and be able to make it through the day without an afternoon nap.

I would think probably around 6 to 8 hours.
