They seem to be happening more often. Since it's (supposedly) spring....the intact dogs are all running around loose. Some kid sees a pretty puppy & walks right up to it....

there are some people who should not have dogs. And then again some people should not even approach them. So many approach strange dogs without asking the owners. I was at the vet once with Lady my border collie shep mix. And this woman walks in with her cocker spaniel. And it was running loose in a room where you know other dogs are at and you know being at the vet they are stressed. Well Lady doesn't like for strange dogs to approach me when we are out because we were attacked by chows once that was running loose. Well this dog comes upto Lady trying to make her aquaintance and I told the woman to get her dog because Lady didn't like strange dogs. And the woman is going on with her buisness and Lady starts growling and the woman still won't listen. And then the vet tech noticed what was going on and ushered the woman and her dog into the office. And then the other vet tech tried to get me to walk past that room with the door still open and the dog still being loose.

And this was just the case of a woman not watching after her dog but what about the people who let their kids run loose and run straight upto a strange dog. We had some kids over one day and I told their mother to have them stay away from Lilly because she does not like kids. And her remark was well if they get bit it will teach them a lesson. And I was like yeah but I don't want my dog biting and I am not taking a chance on you suing me or trying to have my dog pts. And as long as we have stupid people and/or stupid owners then we will have dog attacks.

Its not always the owners fault sometimes it the victims fault. And sometimes when its a child the child was doing something mean to the dog but noone was watching and all they saw was the dog attacking not the dog defending himself the only way he knows how.

Dog bites were pretty common when I was growing up.
It was common for people's dogs to be loose (rural area) and un-altered.
No one was sue happy in those days, so bites were rarely reported.
I was mauled pretty badly by our neighbor's dog when I was a toddler.
Mostly it looked worse than it was, all superficial.
It wasn't reported, except by my dad to the neighbor, who made sure her GSD was secured after that.

I don't think its any more common than in the past, I just think the media likes to make a big hype about it. It's never the dogs fault when these things happen, there's always an irresponsible stupid person behind it.

I think it is just making the news more now than it used to, but I don't think it happens more often. Not much more anyways.

Just like sex abuse, it happens all the time and has for forever, but you only HEAR about it more often now because of the media.

I got bit by a very nasty little terrier once, but did I go crying to the media? No!

I agree with this statement completely. Way to many people get large breed or fighting breed dogs to boost their ego's and things like dog attacks end up happening. All dogs it doesn't matter what breed can be loving pets if they are trained and treated the correct way. It's not the dogs that should be banned, it is stupid dog owners.
