Hi all,
Me and a partner have a kitten,
Her name is Lil, Lil is almost a year old now.
Lil is litter trained, she will use the litter tray and has done so for along time
only recently she from time to time goes on the carpet not far from the litter tray.
Could this be because she has not been spaded?
There are two other cats in the house could this be a problem, if so they never stopped her before.
We spary pet repellent on the carpet but this does not stop her.
Any help will be appreciated
thanks

Hi and welcome to TCS

When was the last time Lil was seen by a Vet?
Sometimes when a cat suddenly stops using the litter box that can be a sign of a Urinary Tract Infection.

Also, have you moved her litter box, bought a new box or changed litter?
Sometimes that can cause a cat to stop using the box.

But like I said, I'd have her checked by a Vet just to make sure it's not a UTI.

Yes with above, vet check is first. That is often a sign of urinary, bladder infection. Also there should be atleast 2 litter boxes with 3 cats, and some cats are attracted to carpets if close to litter, or in bathrooms.

Another vote for a trip to the vet. Sounds like she might have a urinary tract infection.

You should also get her spayed, she's more than old enough.

Unspayed females sometimes mark their territory when in heat.

It could be marking if she's in heat and not spayed - why is she not spayed? Please get her done now, before she gets outside and gets pregnant. Also she could have a UTI, so she should see a vet to check that out and be spayed.

How many litter boxes and how many cats. Sometimes 2 cats will share one box (our do) but usually its better to have 1 litter box per cat.

Are the other cats in the house neutered and spayed?

thanks for your replies
Taking her to the vet is a good idea.
As far as i am aware she is still using the litter tray to pee..
And she still uses the litter tray to go number two but now and again she leaves
a present on the carpet.
We have two litter trays for three cats.
Thanks again.

counting down until graduation!!
Sometimes my cat just misses. I see her in there, but she just doesn't quite make it in the box... HATE THAT!! At least I have newspaper under there, so that is where it usually ends up. Then she tries to cover it with newspaper. Never works... I usually have to go and pick it up.. YUK!!

I couldn't have put it any better myself!
