It's a sure sign of spring when the kestrels come back. I'm watching them now, they're fast little falcons and so beautiful! The other day I was coming home and I saw a kestrel take down a pigeon. The poor pigeon was flying to slowly for it to escape and wham, the kestrel got it. It was amazing to see Nature in action, especially falcons. They really are magnificent, even a kestrel which is the smallest of the falcons. I've also seen peregrins around here, all I can say is WOW. Just a split second is all it takes for them to dive in for a meal. Amazing, beautiful birds. The kestrels are so loud I can hear them calling from my window, a sort of laughing call. It always lifts my spirits when the falcons return. They are getting rarer around here and just to see and hear them and know that they are thriving makes me smile.
