I checked the news this morning when I woke up and found that there was some devastating news... Our local Humane Society, that has been around for years, burned to the ground early this morning.

It took me a few minutes to even find the strength to click on the article because I just didn't want to read about the precious lives lost. Many of the cats didn't make it and two dogs died in the fire. If you have a moment, could you spare some vibes not only for the animals who were lost, but also for the amazing volunteers and workers who dedicate their time to caring for the animals in our community. I can't imagine what they must be going through.

Lots of vibes and prayers for the animals that survived and a huge thank you to the firefighters who saved them. I hope the Jacksonville HS can be rebuilt quickly and continue rescuing animals.

Wishing I were anywhere but here
That is horrible!
I wish more could have been saved, but I know they saved as many as possible. I feel heartbroken to have to read that so many cats died.
RIP little angels...

That happen in my town a few years ago.
It is a devastating tragedy.

It took almost 3 years but we did re-build a safe, new facility.
Never again...

My prayers go out to all of the volunteers and your community for this terrible loss.
RIP precious babies.

Oh I my god I am so sorry to hear that! I can't even think about this happening to the Humane Society I volunteer at. That is just horrifying! I will pray for the animals who lost their lives and the ones who survived and are probably traumatized now!

I passed by the Humane Society on my way to class yesterday. People have left flowers and stuffed animals all around the fence near the entrance. They have been able to bring the surviving dogs back on to the property. The dog area suffered the least damage. As always, there is talk of ways this tragedy could have been prevented. The building was quite old and there was no fire supression system in place. They are debating whether or not to salvage the building that burned, or to rebuild a new facility. In either case, they will put in fire safety equipment such as sprinklers, etc.
One of the local car washes is having a fund raising effort tomorrow. They are donating 100% of their earning to the HS, hoping to raise $10,000. So far, they have received $87,000 in donations. I think that is remarkable!
A cat named "Lucky" was found alive in the rubble yesterday. The interesting part of the story is that his name was Lucky before the fire even occurred. They interviewed some of the workers at the HS and they said the rescue was exactly what they needed to lift their spirits in the midst of the disaster.

Here is an updated article:

This article is about Lucky the cat who was rescued:
