So my birthday is coming up and I'm going to spend that weekend up at the Kansas City Pet Expo volunteering in the NMHP's booth. I will be exposed to a lot of dogs in rescue and I've been thinking for a long time that perhaps we need a medium sized female dog to give my 2 big boys some balance. I'm thinking of a knee high girl in the 50 pound range.

I think my husband is somewhat opposed to rocking the happy balance we have in our household by bringing in another dog. I really want one and can use my birthday as an excuse to ask for one. He usually gives in to my birthday requests. And I know I'm going to be sorely tempted to adopt one at the expo.

There is no question about having the resource to take care of one. Adding a third dog isn't much more time, and we have the resources to add another. The 2 acre fenced yard and large house is a perfect set up for a lot of dogs. We've had 5 in the past and 2 just doesn't seem to be enough at times. Our neighbor's dog (female knee high about 50 pounds) spends a lot of time with our dogs and actually comes inside the house almost daily. It's fun to have another furry around.

Am I nuts to bring another baby into my life? Some one either give me excuses to ask for one or reasons why not to.

I'm sorry. I am not the one to give you reasons why you shouldn't have another. Look at me with my 4 dogs..

You're not nuts! I think you're a great person for wanting another pet to take of. As long as you can care for another pet, and your husband is ok with it (since he also has to live there! :-)), why not? My cats are my "kids", and I thank God every day for them--even though we didn't intend to have 9!

We never intended to have all of the 15 (dogs and cats) that we care for either! Maybe I'll use the estrogen balance excuse: but there are one 3 of us females out of 17 occupants and we need another girl!

Yeah Hope - having lived with 5 for a long time, I remember the happy times of doing the doggie dance in the kitchen while cooking dinner. You know what I'm talking about!
