My cat has been on this diet since 2005 due to possible food allergies. Her food is obtained from the Vet, Green Pea and Venison. Because of all this dreadful scare with Menu Foods and recalls - I searched for "Royal Canin" online. I discovered they are being sued for excessive levels of Vitamin D that were accidentally put in their foods last year. It is being blamed for causing some deaths of cats.

One article said it was specifically food sold by Vets, which is what I buy. It was recalled, but I don't know that my Vet would've call me to alert me if I'd bought some. My question is - if this had any affect on my cat...would she have had symptoms by now?

For years we had regular vet visits due to allergy problems - but she has seemed pretty healthy for the past year.

This happened last year and it was a mistake. They have implemented new quality assurance procedures. So I think it is pretty safe to feed to your cats. Its what I feed.

It was only in some of the vet diets, some info below from FDA / Royal Canin / A+ Flint River Ranch. I am not sure how long hypercalcemia takes to show symptoms nor what food you feed, but I hope this helps

Left untreated, hypercalcemia (excessive amounts of calcium levels in the blood) can lead to bone defects, cardiac changes (including abnormal heart rhythm, or arrhythmia), kidney hypertension and possible renal failure, and, at especially high levels, death.

Thank you so much. I was concerned because about a year ago my Vet heard an irregular heartbeat in my cat. I then took her to a specialist who saw nothing irregular...so he told me not to worry about it. But of course, it's always in my mind to keep an eye on it...then reading about this lawsuit really concerned me...because I heard nothing of it during the actual recall.

The list you attached was VERY helpful because it does not list my cat's food and it helps to alleviate some fears. Thank you so very much, I really appreciate it!

Glad it helped
and it is great that your kitty did not eat any of the recalled food.

I would think that once vets got the recall letter they would know who they supplied the food to and called them but not told people not affected by the recall
