I am supposed to go back to work Monday on restricted duty, so I'll be working 4 hours a day for the next 4 weeks, per doctor's orders. However before I can do that, I have to get approved to do so by the insurance company that my job deals with. My doctor sent over all the information needed to approve the request the Thursday before last, more than enough time. I purposely rescheduled my doctors appointment so they could get the information to them sooner. Well they didn't get it until Tuesday because their fax system is so backed up that they never get anything the same day you send it over. I told reps NUMEROUS times that I was going back Monday as that's when my benefits run out and I am to NOT go back full time for 4 weeks, even for a few days. All I get told is "It takes 5 business days to process your approval". Well that does me no good if it only leaves 3 business days for them to review before I go back.

Well today I called and left a message with my case manager and I wound up getting a message from someone else who just said that I'll hear from someone Tuesday or Wednesday!

When I go back, the whole point of the insurance is so I can work part time but get paid for full. So now I don't know if I can even go back to work part time on Monday and still get paid for full time for those days after I get approved, or if I'll only get paid for days I work after the approval.

You've gotta love companies who don't care about whether or not the people they are "helping" get the immediate response they need or not.

I'm so sorry they're putting you through this.
Insurance companies can be so difficult to deal with.

That's so perfectly typical. I don't know where these companies find enough completely clueless and uncaring people to staff their offices.

Can you explain it to the HR person at your job? Maybe he/she would know whether it's safe for you to come back Monday... and more to the point, maybe he/she has a "back number" for that insurance company, where the two of you can call and actually get through to someone who will take action!

Well I actually heard back. I'm approved until the 25th, which is when I have my doctor's appointment. This irritates me because he specifically said he wanted me on part time for 4 weeks, not 2 weeks until the appointment and then we'd play it by ear. So this means that once again, after I have the appointment, the doctor has to send over more paperwork saying that he wants me out an additional two weeks, and then I have to wait about 2 or 3 days for them to get it because they have a slow fax system, and then another few days for them to approve it. If they don't approve it before my next pay check, I won't get paid, and my job takes 2 weeks to get the money back to me.

My job has no HR Department, we have just a pyramid of managers I have to deal with. All of who say they're going to look into things and either they don't, or they're given the run around themselves.
