I have borrowed a trap to catch the little stray that has been hanging out at our house for the past 3 months. Will try to catch him on Friday (keep fingers crossed! this is our last hope!!) so I can take him to the vet on Saturday for shots, removal of tight collar etc. I need to have him neutered but that will have to be scheduled next week.

Any advice on how to handle him when caught? He is cautious about being touched, so much so that he bit at another neighbor who was trying to help him -- so how will I get the leash on to walk him? should I just keep him indoors for a few days until he gets used to being with us or will that make him crazy? Our lawn is not enclosed. we have a small dog that he is pals with, but should I keep the stray in a separate room to settle or let him have the run of the house (bearing in mind I will need to supervise with the cats)?

Wow what a nice thing you are trying to do. This is a dog, right?
If you keep him in the hosue you are going to have a problem, n amely he has to go outside to pee and poo.
It is not a good sign that he tried to bite a neighbor either. He is probably scared and in pain from the collar. Can you get one of those snare poles?

I mean, he is not going to like whatever you do. How are you goin gto ctach him?
It sounds to me like if he is hanging out at your house you have a good chance of winning his trust. Have you been giving him food etc? Can you get close enough to him to put a leash on his collar?
