Help Please!
My wife and I have owned three traditional Siamese cats over the past 28 years. The first cat lived 17 years and was never sick. Our second cat lived 10 years and died from complications from diabetes. Our third cat died last weekend at 2 years of hypertropic cardio myopathy. This beautiful, wonderful cat was purchased from a breeder with excellent references. We want to purchase another traditional Siamese but are reluctant to risk having our hearts broken again.

Here is my question. When we bought our last cat, we read about the controversy involving the breeding of the "wedge head" Siamese and how it potentially compromised their health. This was another reason we sought a traditional cat. Is it possible that in their attempt to protect the traditional bloodlines, the breeders are compromising the health of these cats? Or, is it more likely that we were just unlucky? My wife and I simply want a pet, not a show cat. We love the intelligence and loyalty of the siamese. Should we give up on trying to find a healthy pure bred or not?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John and Suzanne, Damascus, Md.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. I volunteer with a Siamese Rescue group in TX. We are part of a national organization. I hope you will check our adoptable cats while searching for your next baby! We have meezers of all ages, colors, and some mixes too! We also do out-of-state adoptions, so feel free to check out all the kitties!
