I'm still reading the thread but I wanted to jump in here before I leave for class. I SO need friends in this and since this place is graet for friends and support I want in too.

I have terrible eating habits and I know if I don't do something now the weight will continue to creep up on me. I also want to be healthy and fit for when Matt and I decide to start a family. At 5'9" I weigh about 190 right now. Not too bad and I hide it well but I should be much closer to 160... not to mention that just a few weeks ago I was 186. A quick idea of how I eat... I'm pretty good durring the day. I eat pretty healthy and don't over eat too much. It's once I get home... I use food as stress relief and it keeps me busy when I'm bored... it's a crutch and thats how the weight has snuck up on me. I'll get home from work and we'll have dinner... then I'll seconds and be stuffed. Then, I'll have something sweet. Then we'll snack on ship or crackers or more dinner... then something else sweet. We just pick and graze all night long simetimes right up to bed time. It's terrible. I weigh more now than I ever have before and I need help!

I love the idea of adding healthy habits one at a time. I've never gone to a WW meeting or anything but I follow the points system (sometimes) and I need to think of this as a life change and not a diet. To date we've bought bikes (right before the snow) so we can stay active together. I've also switched from 2% milk to 1%. Next I think I'll see if he's willing to switch to all whole grains next time we go pantry shopping. Baby steps.

I've also been contemplating a new tattoo for this new journey in my life. This morning I think I came up with one I like... scales which could mean 2 things for me... a healthier (thinner) life and also my future career as a lawyer. I also want to get it some where that I'll always see it but I'm torn on that. I was thinking wrist but I'm not sure.

I also have a random question for the ladies in this thread. I'm wondering who else experiences this phenomenon. So, we gain weight, and our boobs gain weight (read:get bigger). They say that whe we lose weight that we'll lose some in our chest too... but I never do. Is this an issue for anyone else?

Oh, and one more thing... Bruce, you are truely and inspiration.

For the boobs question... I lost about 100lbs and the last place I lost it was in the chest. It seemed that the last 10lbs just sort of sat there.

Good luck on your journey honey. If you need some help please feel free to PM me.

I'd just like to share my weight loss story with you all. About three years ago I went to the doctor, and he weighed me. At that point I was 210lbs and 5 foot 6 inches tall. He looked at me and said that my health problems were most likely stemming from my weight. He mentioned, in passing, that if I gained a little more I may be a good candidate for gastric bypass.

For some reason that night I rented Super Size me. Well, will the combination of my doctor and that movie I changed my entire life. First, I threw out everything in my house with high fructose corn syrup, then I threw out everything that had refined sugar and white flour in it. Upon looking at my empty cabinets I realized that I had ALOT of work to do.

I started doing Yoga once a week, because that was all I could take. About three months in I went back to the same doctor. I had lost 20 pounds. He was amazed, and told me to keep doing what I was doing.

Three years later I lost about 100 pounds. There are several things I've realized: 1. It's far more an emotional journey than a physical one. 2. You will have your critics.

Stay strong... if anyone needs anything feel free to PM me.

Such inspirational people here!

I have noticed that I like whole wheat pasta a LOT better than regular pasta, and you can ask for it in restaurants, usually.

I've been really bad with the fast food, but I started again yesterday trying to be good and the scales went the right direction this morning!

Fast food was my worst temptation. I found that if I carried a bag of nuts or dried fruit in my bag then I'd be far less likely to eat it. DH and I do a "work snack" every week. We sit something on our desks and munch away. This week I have roasted almonds and raisins. Last week I had blueberry granola.

Carol, YOU GO GIRL!!!
Congratulations!!!

Meaghan, I've noticed the same thing. Even though I've lost almost 70 lbs, my cup size hasn't shrunk a bit, let alone to it's pre-gain size. DH is thrilled
, but I could use a little less.

Thanks! It's always encouraging to hear others stories. I may PM you later this week as I'm curious about detoxing (preferable with out fasting) as well. You are definitely right about it being an emotional journey. I rely on food for so much that I need to learn to eat to live and not living to eat. I guess I need to find something else to do in those trigger situations. If I could do it with smoking I CAN do it with food.

Matt feels the same way... of course, if I get to my goal weight I'll be falling on my face all the time! LOL What's funny is I was looking at pics from 4ish years ago and I can see the difference (not to mention that none of those old bras fit) and he says... I don't think they are bigger! I think it was a ploy to get me to show him that they really are! Boys...

Anyway.. I wouldn't do a full workout if you're hurting, but a little sometimes helps work out muscle soreness, and those balls are great for stretching.
Thanks for the advice. I try to strech on it everyday. It helps me at work to strech. Lifting cases of wine and pasta all day can get hard on me. I have already pulled my back this year so now I stech daily no matter what. I don't know yet if I will use the ball today, it makes me work muscles I didn't even know I had. I am open to any ideas on excersises I can do with the ball. The only thin I have is the DVD that came with it and the chart. I would love some new ideas on what to use it for.

Oh and as fo the boob thing. That is the first place I gain weight and the first place I lose weight. I wish I could just keep them a bit on the bigger size. I like being a C cup instead of the B cup I am supose to be, so does my DH.

Getting back into yoga, drinking more water like I use to and really I should lay off the coffee! Though once a job is back in hand and I have a routine maybe I'll be able to stick with it better cuz I will have more energy? eh? You all are so inspiring! You the best!

Back for the gym - 3rd day since Friday!
One more day before Friday and I've reach my weekly goal!

The owners of my new gym are so nice. They just opened a month ago its owned by two brothers. Right now there are never any members there when I'm there. So today I got my own little weights tips and tricks session. Almost like my own mini-personal training time.

Now my arms, legs, and abs hurt so I am gonna take a little break.

Thanks for all the motivation guys!! We're all doing so well.

The other day, my mom found a couple of rolls of film lying around and took them to be developed. This afternoon, we picked up the prints. One roll was recent shots of our cats -- but the other roll was at least eight years old. I have no idea how it reappeared after so long... but it contained a lot of pictures of me during a time when I was briefly down to 160 pounds, and oh gosh... it was quite a revelation to see how much better I looked then, even just my face.

So even the Good Fairy of Lost Items seems to be trying to give me encouragement!

Well, I'm doing pretty well today. Lots of water and good meals. Cold ceral for breakfast and turkey on wheat for lunch. A school snack of a whole grain granola bar and diner was a cranberry pecan chicken salad from Wendy's. I have a small frost in the freezer but only plan on eating half.. which I need to do cuz it's getting close to gremlin time. LOL

No exercise today but it was a late night and I'm planning on yoga or weights tomorrow.

lady, one of the things you can do to watch what you eat, even if you can't afford more healthy food, is cut down your portions... *or* keep track of your calories, and just do your best to limit your calories to a certain amount daily. They say you should never go under 1200 (with a more appropriate number being 1400)... but if you up your water intake (very important, I've found, when actually losing weight.. you actually lose more if you're drinking the right amount of water, even after you lose the initial water weight).. and if your calories are currently at say.. 2500 calories a day.. one pound is 3500 calories loss.. since you're home, I'd start some sort of exercise routine. If you burn 200 calories a day, in 10 days that's 2000 calories (which doesn't sound like a lot) and if you subtract 200 calories from your daily average meals.. then that's 4000 in 10 days, which is just over a pound.

Karma: Here's one site that looks like it has a number of different target areas for the exercise ball: http://www.homegyms101.com/Exercise_...FReHhgoddwvJrQ

This site has some as well, and some of them are illustrated: http://www.bindependent.com/hompg/bi...iseballuse.htm

I think it's Gaian that does a series... but there are a number of them out there.

On that note, I have been bad this week, and have not been following my goals. I get weighed tomorrow at the WW meeting at work. We'll see if I've gained weight instead of lost. Ahh, well, it all takes time to get in the habit of doing.

You guys are doing great! Keep up the good work and the positive attitudes!

Okay so I have hit my first hurdle. I have cut back aloton the drinking. Basicly I have decide to only drink on my days off so I can enjoy it. I have lost some weight, started excercising, drinking more water, not sampleing everything.
Well here is my hurdle. Today at work while I was standing behind the demo stand, next to the wine department. I looked over and saw......my ALL time favorite wine has come back. We had it for a short time at Christmas, it was aone time buy so it was suppose to be gone buy now. Well apperently some more was found in the warehouse and sent to us. We are going to get it everyday now for the next couple of weeks. We are selling it at 1.99, normally it goes for 6.99. Corpret just wants the stuff gone. It is the best wine I have ever had, I love it more than food. I called my DH and had him come in and buy one bottle of the red and one of the white. I have already had half a bottle of the white. I stopped there but want more. We talked about it and have said we will buy a case of each when I get paid again next week. Just so I have it. I don't want people to say not to buy it because it really is special and soooooo good. I just need some back up so I don't polish it all off in one week. I have no self control in that area. I don't know I guess I just needed to get it out. Now that I read this I think I can be good and not screw everything up. This was the first wine we invested in ever when we had it a few months ago. I think I just need reasurance that I can have a glass but not the whole bottle.
Thank you for reading this completely useless rant. I really want to change my ways. I am glad you guys are here. This is the first of many battles I am sure I will come up against in this whole challenge. Boy this is alot harder than I thought it would be.

Okay, here's what I would do (and have, in some cases) because I know I couldn't resist temptation. I would buy the case. However.. I would keep it at a friend's house, or.. a relatives, somewhere it's safe but you can't readily access it. If the friend or relative lives next door or within a short walking distance, that's not going to work. It's too easy to access it. Then, if you *really* want it, you have to actually go get a bottle.. and it won't just be easy to get to. That being said, I don't know of a way to help you limit it to one cup instead of more, but.. really, if you're cutting back and it occasionally happens that you overindulge.. it's not going to be horrible.. just try to exercise more the next day.

You can do it!

I'd happily take some of that wine off your hands if it's too tempting! LOL

I was sitting here thinking of what I could do at work to be more active or pro-active. Walking is only possible when the weather is nice and since Matt and I are going to bike as often as possible I think that's enough cardio. So, I was looking for desk exercise and found a great seated full body workout on About. The only thing I might add for some extra ab work is a knee lift. I'll describe it as best I can but you sit upright in your chair and grab front edge of you chair for leverage. Then you crunch you knees up toward your chest. It's great for the front abs.

I've decided that I'm going to try calorie shifting again cuz it seems to work pretty well. Basically, you phase from eating mostly carbs (good carbs like fruits, veggies and whole grains) to eating mostly protien and back again. If anyone wants more details about this PM me. I have a pretty good outline for it. Which reminds me that I mentioned switching to all whole grains to Matt last night and his first questions was... in a mildly whiney tone... "Pasta too?" LOL Yes, pasta too since thats where we eat most of our enriched flour. I'll buy a box and have him try it. I bet he'll like it more than he expects.

Sorry this is so scattered but I'm still really excited about this (good thing) and when I'm excited my mind is all over the place.
