Your Pepsi Cola Company Online Winning (Email Scam)

I received the following email to an email that I have never, ever received a single spam email to. Given that it would be nice if it were true, but my "scam red flag" went up. I tried searching on the internet but couldn't find anything about this.

Date: 4th April 2007

Attention

I am Mrs Barbara Lucero Online Director Pepsico Company here in the United Kingdom, wish to bring to your notice that the Pepsico Company here in the United Kingdom has awarded you with the Sum of Five Hundred Thousand British Pounds Sterlings. An email selection was done on the 3rd April 2007 and One Hundred and Seventy Winners was awarded with the Sum of Five Hundred Thousand British Pounds Sterling.

Base on the fraudulent activities going on via the internet, the Pepsico Company Board of Directors and it's Partners has given us the mandate to pay your Online Lottery Winning Fund via Wire Transfer to your designated Bank account.

Furthermore, you are required as a matter of urgency to contact us immediately, for further details in regards to this Winning Notice. You are to furnish us with the following

Informations:

Your Full Name
Occupation
Address
Gender
Age

However, the email properties show the following:

To: [email protected] (edited out my email address for posting here)
Subject: Your Pepsi Cola Company Online Winning
From: Pepsi Cola Company <[email protected]>
Reply-To: [email protected]
Unfortunately so many people would just simply reply without investigating and some twit with a Yahoo email account and way too much time on his hands would be getting your private information and probably some of your money too.

The spelling and grammatical errors are also good indications of a fraud -- one would assume that a big company like Pepsi would hire editors before making an important announcement like that.

It's amazing, though, the number of people who don't even stop to think "Hey, I didn't enter an online contest with Pepsi ... I wonder how I won something?"

It's so sad that some people do get all excited about these ridiculous scams.
I saw a programme on that just the other night where they tracked the scammers down to *shock* *gasp* Nigeria, but not before they got thousands of dollars from a lonely old man trying to help someone out.
