Uhm...if you are itchy you are (imo) having an allergic reaction to the pain med I think...I'd call your doctor re if you should take a benadryl or go be seen...please check for hives and any swelling - lips, eye lids, tongue, any difficulty swallowing or breathing makes it an emergency of course.

Please post an update here soon!

I did call him the first time I got itchy. he told me that for the praticular med it is a side effect,as long as there is no swelling, hives,ect..along with it i am aok.

this itching is worse than it has been before though So i let steve know we may need to make a trip..taking a benadryl may be a good idea I can callthe nurse line and see if thats ok. cause this is gonna drive me nuts

If it's worse than before, I would go ahead and call the nurse line, they can advise/reassure you, let you know if benadryl would be appropriate.

I am so sorry..I've had hives..hate feeling that itchy!!

If you are itchy after taking a medication that means you are allergic to it. I wouldn't take anymore of the medication either until you saw a doctor. The next time you could have an anaphylactic reaction with your throat swelling shut and sophicating you.

Take some Benadryl for the itch and stay away from those pain meds!

I live on Benadry. I always have to have it in the house and in my purse because I have a rare skin condition called Dermatographism where blunt touch causes hives. It's a result of extremely sensitive skin.

The itch is excrutiating and the only thing that will alleviate the itch is if I take Benadryl or scratch with something sharp or abraisive. Fingernails and back scratcher thingys only make it worse and cause the hives to grow and spread. I have to use a bristle brush, or my cats wire brush, or a dry loofah sponge.

Good...I was very worried when I read your first post, and am glad you were still on the boards. Hope you feel better soon.

I cant ever sleep, lol even on pain meds that make me groggy. not a bit of swelling, or anything other than the itchy itch..but a warm bath helped.

That sounds like a mild allergic reaction to the narcotic pain killer. It's not life-threatening and not a true allergy. Things like morphine, hydrocodone, and codeine cause some people to release histamine. It is a common side effect, and is no indication that the meds could cause a worse reaction in the future. Take a couple diphenhydramine with it and you should feel better.
Not to be a know-it-all or anything, but I was in pharmacy school.

You would be experiencing difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, and probably be dead by now if it were a true anaphylactic reaction.
