Hello

Today, after keeping Sookie (the new kitty) in the bathroom and playing with Javier (the resident kitty) under the door for a week, exchanging sweatshirts they were lying on, shoving treats through the door so they both get some, they met for the first time face to face.

I had to eventually leave the room because I'm so overprotective and would accidentally gasp if I thought somebody was going to get hurt and scare everyone to death, but my two teenage daughters and my boyfriend were in there with them. There was no hissing or spitting. But our new little one, Sookie, is so passive. She would lie on her side and put her head down. For the first 10 minutes or so, they had pretty gentle paws with each other. Javier was swiping at her head, bopping it, and she hit him back a few times. But other than that, they were pretty civil except . . .

Everytime she would walk away from him, he would go after her from behind. Towards the end, he was biting her butt, and he had her cornered, so we had to separate them. She was screaming! All together it was about 10 minutes of okay interactions, and about 3 minutes of him attacking her. Javier is so aggressive. And she is so sweet. I thought when she obviously was saying, okay, you can be top cat, he would be nicer. They are just about the same size and Javier is about 7 months old and she is about a year old.

Do you think that putting vanilla by her tail would help? Or Feliway? Or is what happened pretty normal? Also, should we try again tomorrow? We gave them both treats afterwards and they seemed okay. I would really appreciate any advice or feedback. I feel so silly writing so often about this, but I've never had two cats before. Thank you for your patience!

Sookie is displaying typical passive, submissive behavior towards your dominant kitty, Javier. Javier is aggressively stating his dominance and territory, while she is submitting, it doesn't sound like that is completely satisfactory to him. I think a few more reintroductions under close watch will be necessary. As far as scents, I can't tell you what may help, but someone here could. Good luck

As you can see, my two cats, which were introducted less than two months ago, are getting along famously. However Persi still is most fascinated by Alley's tail. Alley twitches her tail a lot and it drives Persi into a frenzy. When Alley moves her tail, it is like me moving one of those feather teasers in front of Persi's face. But no fear, it is all in good fun although Alley can get quite annoyed at having her tail the center of attraction.
