Can someone tell me something about this solution? It was given to my cat by the vet but its making him really salivate. I don't like this reaction; it seems strange and peculiar.

I tried looking up the solution online and didn't have much luck getting information on it.

Can someone please help me with this. I'm getting worried about it. I could just be paranoid, but I don't want to be hurting my cat with this solution.

Thank you!

Ok, this is an opthomalic solution that should be put in your kitties eye, not his mouth.

Are you putting in his eye and it is making him salivate?

this link is to medicinet and has information about this solution and its use and side effects in humans. Doesn't say anything about excessive salivation

Yes, it's being put in the eye. And, its actually my brother who has been administering the medication. He is putting one drop in Cici's (my cat) left eye; this is causing him to immediately start to salivate.

Ok, sounds like it is running through the tear ducts into his, nose and down the back of his throat somehow. Their is a connection between the three, so he is getting a yucky taste in his mouth.

He may just be super sensitive, as cats will get psychological salivation. My kitty Zoe with start slobbering if one of the OTHER cats has to get amoxicillin drops. She just has to see the bottle.

If it was me, I would call the vet and just ask if this is a common reaction. I think he is ok...but just to make sure. I always err on the side of caution. They do make an oral solution, so it should not be toxic if he is swallowing some.

Is his eye getting better? If I am remembering correctly you had a not so good vet visit, after suspecting Uveitis.

Smart, that may explain what is going on...

He's supposed to get another drop in his eye in about 30 minutes. Should I just skip it?? I think I will, but what if I'm just being paranoid and I keep him from healing?

Is his eye getting better?
Well, no notable difference as of yet. He doesn't look sick or act sick though. He seems perfectly fine and happy, but his eye is still the same. The grayish opaque matter is still there, covering most of his left eye.

Yes, only because I'm not sure the vet had all the facts to make a proper diagnosis. Either way, the vet herself wasn't able to give a definitive answer as to what could be causing this. We have a follow-up visit scheduled for Monday. She said we could go earlier (tomorrow) if he got worse. Thing is, I don't like taking him to the vet because he hates it so much. I think I'll just wait for Monday, even though I have an inkling that I should take him tomorrow. I'll just call the vet and see what she thinks...

Depending on where you live, there should be an emergency clinic that is open 24 hours a day. I live really rural so we don't have them here, however under the veterinary law, the vets are not allowed to be closed or gone without having an emergency back up. So you should be able to call your vet's number and they should give you a number to call for emergencies if you don't have and emergency clinic by you.

It might be the best idea if you have to take Cici in anyway, take her tomorrow instead of Monday. If the diagnosis is incorrect because of misinformation, then the longer you wait the worse things might get.

I am paranoid about eye problems.

My cat has an eye infection and the vet prescribed atropine sulfate 1% along with a few other antibiotics.  The vet told me that the atropine goes into the eye, but if any of gets into the cats mouth the cat will starting foaming at the mouth because it tastes terrible.  The vet said this is nothing to worry about although unpleasant.  The atropine is supposed to reduce pain and discomfort.
