i have one of the hard, plastic ones, that never gets used, but is there for emergencies [gotta have enough to transport all of them!]
i have 3 soft-sided ones w/mesh inserts - but they don't look like the pix you posted. they look kinda like this.
i really like the soft ones - they have both a top entry & a end entry. & i can see the cat thru the mesh & pet them thru it. plus i like having the shoulder strap for my lighter kitties.

I have a soft side one that I bought at Walmart for about $30. It has a metal frame that protects against something or someone falling on it. I really like it! Dusty isn't too fond of it, because she knows it means a visit to the vet, lol!

I have several of the top loading plastic carriers and 2 of the Sherpa bags. I always use the top loading ones to get the cats back & forth to the vet--for some reason I just think they might be safer in the car and they're certainly easier to get a struggling kitty into at vet time
.

I've not used it yet but I like the top opening as it's easier to get the cat in and out (particularly out - it's hard to get Jaffa out of the carrier at the vets). It was recommended to me by someone who shows her cat and always gets complimented on it at cat shows, especially by vets and stewards at vetting in.
This is such a cool carrier. I've never seen this one before.

I use hard sided.

They love their carriers. Not as much after recent traumatic events (emergency evacuation during a fire, and moving) but they will eventually sleep in them or on them if I leave them laying about.
I have pillow cases that I added drawstrings to for fire emergency evac. It's alot easier to drop a cat in and hang on your shoulder while you get the next one in it's case. Kitties may be unhappy but it's the fastest way I have heard of....and seconds count in a fire.

Soft carriers are made of synthetics? With a cotton pillow case it will act as a bit of a smoke filter too.
If you have a two story don't forget a rope to lower the bags out a window

Oh my, poor Damita. Does she toss herself around in the soft one too?

I think I may end up getting one of each, and just see which one kitty likes best!

I use the 3/4 hard sided, soft carriers made by Sherpa. I love them because they are still hard enough to protect my kitties in an accident yet they have the shoulder strap that makes them easy for carrying. Each of them has their own color and design as well-it was hard finding 8 different carriers but I found them. They are a little pricey, with most costing around $80-90, but it is worth it and my kitties love them, the only downfall is that only one kitty fits in it at a time.

If there is no car involved and we aren't going to the vet, Zissou is on her leash.

Otherwise, she's in one of those standard plastic ones, which she actually enjoys and will sleep in just for fun. Soft-sided ones just don't seem protective to me at all, and I can't figure out how you would use a seat belt with one?

There's a luggage attachment on the back, which is a big nylon loop made from strap material. You can slide it over the handle on a rolling suitcase so the cat doesn't fall off if you're travelling, or I slip the seatbelt through the slot and snap it in.

we use the soft carriers, mostly because they are pretty
. I like to use them because they can easily go in the wash. I don't think our cats really care what they use, but I like to think they like the soft bottom to lay on!

I have three hard side and four soft side...( i pick them up on sale )...

I use the hard side for Kandie as I can undo the carrier to get her out ( at proper wt she is about 14lbs
BIG girl ...

Gigi I use which ever is handy she does fine in either style as well as her snuggli and seat belt( carrier combo)

Zoey soft only as the hard brings out her feral side

All mine but one are the plastic hard sided ones. I only have the one soft bag for my 2-3 month old kittens when they go for vaccinations. Since 50% of my cats/kittens are show cats, it's safer for them to have the hard carriers.

I have and use both. For some reason, Leo will oly go into the soft ones and he's much easier to carry that way. My vet is one block away, so it's more comfy to take the soft and I haven't had any issues. For big trips or if we ever need to fly, we have hard.
