Bearing in mind that I have eclectic taste in movies ...

Almost Famous is great for anyone who loves music

Shawn of the Dead is the best romantic-comedy-horror movie I've ever seen. The comedy is seamlessly intermixed with the romance and the horror.

300 See it in theatres. Find the biggest screen you can. It's brilliant.

Sin City Not for the faint of heart, and there are no "good guys," just some people who happen to be less bad than the other people.

The Prestige Cleverly done -- I spent the entire movie trying to figure out how it would end.

Munich Not a happy movie, but a very, very good one.

Strange Days Outdated now (it's a "what if" taking place on New Year's Eve 1999), but very good.

Marie Antoinette and Elizabeth The history is reworked in order to make the stories more compelling, but both are well done and the acting is fantastic.

Closer Another movie with no "good" characters. Definitely don't watch it with your kids (or your parents) -- there's no actual sex, but there's a lot of talking about it.

Im sure most people won't appreciate my taste but I like movies such as: The Crow, American Beauty, Virgin Suicides, Requiem For A Dream, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Blow, The Green Mile, American History X, Crank, Empire, Thirteen, Hackers, Foxfire, Driven, Gone in 60 Seconds, Transporter (1 & 2), All the Saw movies, House of 1000 corpses, The Devils Rejects, Dazed and Confused, Fear, and so on! Yes i love a good sappy movie but I love movies that teach a lesson or are a sample of what real life is like! I like movies with hardships that make me think! My list is never ending but I thought I would list some not so happy movies! Alot are druggie movies (no Im not a druggie) something I once related too and watching these movies makes me wonder what the hell I was thinking! If I had to pick a must see off of my list it would have to be American History X (with Edward Norton and Edward Furlong) so sad and disturbing!

Hey, I like most of these!
American History X is brilliant, but it's hard to watch more than once. (Some scenes don't need to be permanently etched into my brain, you know what I'm saying?)

Yeah like the jail bathroom scene (made me cry) and the curb scene (made me hurt) and the end scene (made me ball)! That is one of the best movies I have seen! Im glad to know I wasn't judged to harshly for my choices! I have unique taste shall we say! Glad we have something in common!

Oh, the curb scene ... *shudder* Yeah, that movie was great, but it was downright unpleasant in parts (which I understand is totally the point). And yes, the end makes me cry. I like movies that make me think and give me an emotional response -- but not movies that obviously try to tug on the heartstrings (like most romantic comedies).

You can watch movies with me any time, Trixie!

Definitley anytime! I don't really watch sappy love stories unless there is nothing else on TV! I guess thats a part of my femininity that has been tainted! I never rent romance! Just action, comedy, and drama (not the lovey dovey kind)! I think everyone should see American History X... There is a lot of value and perception that the movie portrays! Definitley left an affect on me! Eventhough it is disturbing its not far from the truth! Makes you realize how good we have it sometimes!

Watching the robins sing!
I watch alot of movies on DVD - and, as I havve said before, lean towards older movies like Out of Africa, recently saw Dr. Zhivago again,
but also:
The Legend of 1900 story of a baby born on a transatlantic steamer who never leaves the ship (stars Tim Roth)
Ride with the Devila Civil war story w/ Toby Mcguire
The Scout very funny - I love Albert Brooks!
Millions directed by the man who did Transpotter: about a little boy who finds a bag a $$ and talks to saints - this is a great family movie!
Oh, I'll think of more, but gotta go back to work! I need to come back and start copying down the suggested movies for myself!

The Prestige was excellent... I had it figured out after a while, but that didn't make it any less exciting.

Night At The Museum was funny and entertaining.

As for older movies... oh, I've got a million. I watch too many movies for my own good.

Romantic comedies (If you're not into chick flicks, just skip this part
): Someone Like You, Housesitter, You've Got Mail, While You Were Sleeping, What Women Want.

Everything else: The Phantom Of The Opera (2004 version), Silence Of The Lambs, Final Destination, Batman Begins, Willard, and (even though it's technically a children's movie) The Chronicles Of Narnia (great special effects).

Windy City Kitty :)
Also, everyone should rent every movie ever made by Wes Anderson, for example, Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

A few of my other favorites include:
All About Eve
Amelie
Garden State
American Beauty
Donnie Darko
Little Miss Sunshine (!!!)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

And that's all I am typing right now, because that's all I can see out of the corner of my eye from my desk

I was planning on mentioning Eternal Sunshine, but when I looked at my post now I see it's not there.

*Looks around for a fading piece of paper from Lacuna*

For some reason I couldn't make it through The Life Aquatic! I couldnt, my sister couldnt, and my bf couldnt! We tried watching it intoxicated amongst other things and couldn't! I should really force myself to watch the whole thing one day! Lacuna? Is that your cat's name? I LOVE the band Lacuna Coil, is that where you got the name from?
