i figure the bills first. i don't necessarily pay them right away, but i set the money aside in Quicken for them. then i figure groceries, gas & cat food. after that it's play money.

my favorite thing to do on payday is go to petsmart.
which is today.
but i don't need anything from there--it's cat litter buying week, so i'll have to go to target or walmart instead.

I set-up online payments myself but I do this after I see the Direct Deposit hit the account. Since I worked in the banking industry I have seen too many direct deposits not making it in or the bank's system was down. I like the control of going to each site than bill pay that does it all in one. I sweep all the bill money to our joint account & anything to pay at a later date goes into a separate savings account. When the bills clear I highlight the amount in red, blue is unpaid, & orange is pending. I also add the payment confirmation # in as a comment.
OYE!!!! your giving me a headache

Before DH and I married, we both kept excel books...one sheet with the check register and another with the budget. All the formulas interacted with one another somehow and it was quite the set up. Now that we just have the one bank account, he keeps the same setup, but now with more money, lol.

We both live below our means, and we easily save a nice portion from each paycheck. We feel blessed by our good fortune and sensible spending habits.

I am glad I am not the only one

We still keep our separate accounts. Total of 3 checking accounts and 7 savings accounts. Each savings has it own purpose like vacations, house, spending, saving...etc. I will hate the day we switch banks. DH is pushing for this since I quit there. It's hard to find a bank that has free checking. The accounts are nice but it's the company we no longer like.

My FIL & his wife make good money. They live off of one salary and bank the rest. There is a nice nest-egg for them and inheritance for 3 boys.

I pay the bills and leave the rest in the bank for everyday expenses. I am supposed to have some back pay coming that will be all mine. I need some work clothes, so I have to go shopping. I would rather have a root canal.

I get direct deposit so it just goes into my checking account. I then leave it there to pay bills when they come up and if possible I put some money into savings. This morning I cried when I saw my amount though

Isn't that funny. Every extra penny I get right now is going to pay for a root canal and crown (roughly $2K altogether.) I am on a payment plan.

I would MUCH rather just go shopping.

Well, I watch it go into my bank account...................then I add up what needs to come out this month..................then I work out what is left....................and then I buy the food, and MORE clothes for the kids who seem to do nothing but GROW........................and and then I work out how much overtime I need to do next month to cover the bills again!!

I have direct deposit also. I pay my bills first. Some I pay online, but I don't like automatic payments, so I go online and pay them each month. Some I pay the old fashioned way with a check in the mail :p

After that its grocery shopping and anything else needed for the house.

Then, with the $5 or 10 I have left, I shop, LOL

Honey deposits our checks in the bank (no DD here my boss is too cheap and honeys can't offer it yet) No biggie though. He puts them in the bank and I check the balance and pay bills from that and the extra money we fritter away.
(mostly on the cats for me anyway, his is on himself cheapo! LOL!)

DH usually does the bills and then we do groceries and things. We have a budget so we deffinatley don't go spending till we've checked with that.
