Hello, as the title says I have an unusal request. Bit first a bit information who I am and why I post here.

First of all I have not cat. Second I am no native english speaker, I live in germany. So why am I posting in an english cat forum?

I am playing roleplaying games (rpg). I started to play on an online rpg server for the game Neverwinter nights (nwn). Don't ask me why, but I got the glorious idea to play a panther. Now that's no usual panther, its a man that shapeshifted into one. But he grew up raised by panther, so his behavior is almost only animallike.

And finally the request and an explanation about it. ^^

In order to play this role well, I need to emote what my panther is doing and his expression etc.

For a human this is easy and something like:
*eyes her as she walks down a road, an uneasy expression starting to spread over his face*

or

*tunes his lute and nod as he seems to be satisfied*

((these are called emotes^^))

Now to my panther. I need to know how sounds made by cats are written ^^. I cannot use the german ones and this is unlikely to find in any dictionary. So how would you write the sounds a cat makes, for example when you stroke it or it rubs itself agaisnt your leg.

And according to the above emotes. Any suggestions for emotes that underline the cat behaviour?

Ok, that's all so far, thank you for any help and ideas.

Nuh uh...might give me away!
Here is a site that has some listed (scroll down, almost to the bottom): http://myfwc.com/panther/rosie/describe.html

As for domestic cats:

purr - can be a sign of happiness or irritation. If the cat is purring and flicking its tail, then it's a sign of irritation, otherwise, the kitty is happy.

trill - not quite a meow, but a sound that has a vibrato to it. Almost as if they were vocalizing a purr (at least, that is my experience).

meow - typical cat sound

squeak - just like it sounds.

Other behaviors that cats do:

Slowly blinking - a sign of trust

Head butting - sign of affection

grooming (licking another cat) - sign of affection

And that's all I can think of right now.

I love NWN! Never played it online, but the single-player kept me occupied for many many months! I think it's great that you are playing as a shapeshifter/panther and trying to really get into the role well

There is a great site about domestic cat communication here. Good descriptions of how cats use bodylanguage to communicate, along with photographs and drawings. There are also links in the first couple of paragraphs of that page to descriptions of the vocal noises that cats make, and what they mean.

I hope that helps, and enjoy the game!

Yeah but it's cute when they try. Little kitten growls

Welcome to TheCatSite

and Wie gehts? Well, when you stroke a cat, (s)he will probably purr (prrrrrr); and to talk to you, (s)he will meow (miaoooooooow, rrrrreeeooohh,
prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt?, rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaoh, or in the case of my Rani, ikk! ikk! -- Rani is unusual...!) When happy, cats will purr. Panthers, though, have voices that are deeper, and more like rrrrraoooooooooooh! Some say they do not purr, but others say they do, only louder and deeper and more rumbling. Does this help? Good luck!
