I just got a new Freshflow automatic drinking fountain for my kitten about a week ago.
He drinks from it a lot, but he has started to pee right by it immediately after drinking.
Could the sound of the fountain be stimulating him to pee? Is he too young to use it and should just use a regular water bowl? He is about 7 weeks old now.

7 weeks is awfully young to be away from mom. It is "normal" I guess for kittens to have accidents, I know Lily as a kitten would get playing & pee on the floor once in awhile, but by 12 weeks she was housetrained.

I think you're right about the sound of the water (it happens with little kids too after all :-).

I guess you could take the fountain away for a while and see if he keeps to the litterbox. Seven weeks is awfully young, he may just "forget" he has to go until it's too late. You know how little kids will sometimes have accidents because they're too engrossed in play to go potty? I wonder if the little chap isn't so excited about his fountain he forgets other stuff...

Thanks!

I think I am going to leave it out but turn it off for awhile and see if that helps.
