The spring is getting to them. I am having the greatest difficulty with Wellington right now - he has escaped into the hall several times, even though I always check that he is at the other side of the kitchen before I open the door in between. He is just so fast. Fortunately none of the outside doors have been open but with all the workmen in here I am so scared that one will be left by accident one day.

I am going to have to be very clear with my ex when he comes over to care for her....Make sure he watches the door, and makes sure she is inside before he leaves....OMG, imagine she got out when I was in Ottawa
I would make a beeline home thats for sure.

Oh dear how frightening. I know that feeling of panic. Sashka used to loiter behind the door when I was getting home from work and make a dash for it every time it opened. It became a daily ritual to make sure I had some big bag or something that I could hold in front of me and deflect her so I could get inside without her getting out. Once or twice she did though - she was sooo tiny and so quick - and I in a back unit but on a busy street and I was so terrified she would get far enough to go on the road.

Her desperation to be outside was so much that rattling her biscuits or anything could not lure her back in - especially after it did the first time and she knew my game when I tried it. Ohhh that was scary. I was so pleased when we moved and she had a much bigger house and more interesting things to look at outside and so wasn't that interested in going out there anymore.

Thank goodness you remained calm! That is the most frightening thing - especially since you are on a busy street. You will definately have to be very watchful now - unless the "mini experience" also frightened Trout.

As Epona says we live on the third floor with a hallway and security door- both cats are microchipped however as its a risk you don't want to have to take

Glad to hear Trout is safe and well after her adventure

Before I had my back porch made into a sunroom, Cleo would try to dash outside. I kept a squirt bottle hanging from the doorknob (on a string) to squirt the girls when I was going out the door. Sort of cruel, but effective. I'm so glad that she didn't get far and you were able to catch her right away. You must have been scared mindless! I live on a busy street too, and having one of the girls dash outside and into the street is absolutely my worst nightmare.

Man, I have never felt so scared

I so know that feeling! Isn't it horrible? Thank goodness she stayed where she was!

That is EXACTLY the reason that my babies wear collars, even though they are indoor only.
