Dog performes "Heimlich" on choking owner

Go Toby!! Good boy!!

I really and truly believe that animals understand a whole lot more than we give them credit for.

Knowing that what he did was the Heimlich? Of course not.
Having an instinctive knowledge that that particular action was needed? Perhaps.
Seeing what his human was trying to accomplish, and setting out to do it himself? I can buy that.

I just heard on the news this morning that a woman around here (maybe Toronto area) was choking on a piece of an apple, and she was hitting herself in the chest trying to get it out...and just then, her 2 year old golden retreiver Toby pushed her down and started jumping on her chest!!! And he got the apple to come out

What a sweet boy, I bet he will get extra treats tonight

Technically it does, but as that use of the word isn't that common anymore, more people use it in reference to animals being less than intelligent. That's why I put the word in quotes.
