Its raining cats and dogs here, and as I pulled up to my condo, I saw a momma possum and her little babies clinging to her back looking for shelter from the rain! She was awfully cute.
I ended up waiting for her to get out of my front doorway, because you never know if they're healthy or not, but I sure do wish I could have done something to get them out of the rain. There's plenty of porches and such in the back though, so hopefully they took shelter out there. But it was exciting, because I never see anything wilder than a squirrel here in town!

Aww!
We have a momma and babies that hang out around here too.. The babies are about 6 months old now...

It drives Jake crazy when they are out in the yard and he can't get out there.

He barks and whines for like 15 mins after she's passed by

I had a possum run through our backyard one day! What part of Texas are you in? It was pouring for the past 5 hours....think it still is.

I've had a Possum living somewhere in my backyard for years now. He doesn't appear to have a mate as I only see the one. This is the second Possum I've seen in Toronto in the past 10 years. They seem harmless and keep to themselves. Definetly less destructive than racoons and squirrels.

If Possums can survive our winters, then a little rain shouldn't hurt your new friend

College Station, so that's central Texas, sort of in the middle of a triangle between Austin, Houston, and Dallas. You?

These were little babies, still holding on to mommy's back! I think there were three of them at least, it was really cute.

Hmm...yes. More East Texas-ish? Or is my geography totally off?
It never was one of my top subjects.

Ahhh, okay, I don't think that would be too far from here then. The rain is finally letting up around here, thank goodness! This city floods at a moment's notice.

I had a visitor tonight too. On the way out to my meeting my orange and white "she" cat came over to visit me again after the whole winter of not seeing her.
She's fat and looks very healthy. I put food out for her and she didn't eat any of it but I think I scared her when I started the car and left. I thought she'd come back to eat after I left but she didn't.
Oh well, at least I know she's been taken care of during the winter and she seems healthy. Hopefully she's spayed and not pregnant.
She wanted me to pet her but I didn't have time because I was running late, she's so friendly, I really want to find out who owns her and talk to them about keeping her inside so she doesn't get hurt.

Sorry to hijack your thread..

lol There's only so much you can say about possums.
I love getting kitty visitors! I'm glad she's back after the winter - it sounds like maybe someone made her a pet and kept her indoors during the cold? That would be great!

I have a very strong dislike for possums. I am going to sound really harsh saying this, but I hate them. More than once they've tried to attack one of the cats. I keep as many in the garage or the shop as I can, but there are two semi-ferals who literally shred the walls when shut in. So, I'd leave them loose & they can go into the garage if they want. Well, one night I heard a noise to look out to see a possum attacking Tabitha!

That's what I was thinking. I think she has owners, but they let her out alot and with her being so friendly, I'm worried she's going to try and go up to someone that doesn't like animals and might hurt her. She comes right up to you and she's so lovey.
