new job??

Well i found out today that i got a new job
but i still have my old one
so now iam confused i need to start getting everything going tomorrow with my new job yet iam supposed to work at my old one,iam debating whether i should just phone and quit my old one(i truely hate my job) and start fresh with my new one tomorrow or wait and give 2 weeks and hope its ok with the new one.
Grrrr i hate situations like this.

I would give 2 weeks with your old job, I'm sure the new would understand as it's pretty much standard protocol I think when starting a new job. Even if it's not 2 weeks, atleast give some notice. You don't want to leave the old job high and dry in case you ever need them for reference later.

Just talk to your new job and find out if it's ok or if you can work something out.

If you quit on the spot, you wind up burning a bridge that could come in handy later on down the road. Call the new job back and explain that you need to give 2 weeks (the common courtesy) to your current job. No longer and no short than 2 weeks. Some companies have policies in place that if you leave before 2 weeks they can deny you ever worked there...or something like that.

Normally i would give 2 weeks notice but because of my current job i have been on stress leave from work for the past week and iam due to go back tomorrow,iam not sure i can handle another 2 weeks of it.

You'd be surprised about how much "better" things are when you know you're leaving.


I had that too at a previous job. I think the last day I spent with my legs kicked up on the desk, and just took my time.

Be cautious though...some business may ask that you pay back your short term leave.

If they asked me to pay back for my short time leave to be honest i would laugh at them
they have screwed me over for 2 years and so far as it stands i know i wouldnt get a good refrence from them because i have missed a decent amout of work from medical reasons.

I'd talk to your new job and let them know that you will be giving notice to the old job but will talk them to see how much notice you will have to give them. Then talk to your old job, tell them you have a new job and would like to give notice that you will be leaving. See if you can get shorter than 2 weeks or maybe try to cover all your last shifts with someone else!

Esp. since you have been there two years, put in your two weeks. It may not seem like it matters now but somewhere down the road, it might matter. It will go by fast since you know you have a new job waiting on you!

Some companies will automatically label an (ex) employee "not eligible for re-hire" if they don't put in a formal two weeks. Rules vary by company though.
