I'm Tricia and I have 2 kitties, Loki and Possum. I got Loki from the Humane Society in January (my sister gave me a gift card to the Humane Society with the amount of a cat adoption fee on it for Christmas!). He is such a good boy, if a little annoying at times. He is very affectionate, and is usually at the door waiting for me when I get home. At least I think he's waiting for me. He also seem to have very little self-confidence in jumping, and I'm not sure why. Although it may have to do with the fact that he has the worst balance for a cat I've ever seen in my life. He's about 2 years old, and he'd very curious and inquisitive. Loki has very pretty golden eyes.
Possum is also new. I just got him earlier this month from a rescue group and he's lived in foster care his whole life (he's 1 1/2). I have him on a trial adoption right now, but I've made the decision to keep him. I wanted a trial period to see how he and Loki would get along, and also because Possum is incredibly shy with new people and places and takes awhile to warm up to people. Well, he's warmed up to me aand Loki really freaking well! He and Loki sleep together and Possum will rub against Loki, and Loki will lick and groom Possum's head, which is really sweet and adorable. They like to play, which is good, because it took Possum about a week and a half to get comfortable enough to play with him. I decided to get another cat because I was concerned Loki was lonely when I was at work or school, since aparently before he was given up he lived with 2 other cats. Possum is a Siamese mix, but he's very quiet. He has pretty blue eyes.
I couldn't have cats before now because I was going to college and I lived in a dorm. I also have a dog named Lady, whom we've had for 15 years. She's a very good dog, but she has now retired to Florida where my Dad lives (because she always liked being around him the best). I miss her a lot and I wish I could see her more often. Lady is a very smart dog, but she's had severe anxiety problems her entire life (due to being abused at a very early age, we adopted her from the Humane Society when she was 5 months old). She also has epilepsy, but that's successfully controlled by medicine. She also has mellowed out a bit in her old age. Many "casual" pet owners probably would have gotten rid of Lady many years ago due to the problems she has and have caused (the severe anxiety disorder caused her to be extremely destructive for about 12 years, and she never completely mastered being housebroken which is probably psychological in nature due to the abuse).
My family has always adopted animals from the Humane Society, the APA, or rescue group and we always spay or neuter them because we think it's important to adopt animals from decent and trustworthy groups, and who may have been "thrown away" or are products from irresponsible owners who let their unaltered pets run wild with no concern for the overpopulation problems. When we adopt animals, we adopt them for life.
Both Loki and Possum were originally strays, but they'll both have a good life with me.
They are very sweet boys.
