Hi,
I'm considering getting a second cat, but I'm wondering how I will fit two on my lap? My current kitty loves to stretch out and sleep across my lap and legs, and he likes to stretch his body next to me in bed, press his little head against me and purr. What would happen with another??? Could I give them both enough attention? Will they fight over me? Will I lose my closeness with my first? What have your experiences been when you first added another cat? Thanks

There's no place like home
If you stretch out just right, you can fit about 7 cats on your body (legs, lap, chest, arms, etc). I say this from experience. Honestly, there are days when I think it would be heavenly to only have 2 cats cause it's sometimes hard to give my 12 their attention.

Yes, you can give 2 cats plenty of attention and lap space. If your kitties bond, they also give each other attention, and that in their own language. You bond with each cat in your own unique way based on their personality and needs. It's not like you'll lose closeness to 1, you will just add closeness to another.

Momofmany has given u some great advice, I could put it any better
Just make sure if u do get another kittie to do the introducitionns right, you dont want to just force a new kittie on her right away! And well i only have 6 but they all get their attention every day, some more than others because u bond differently whihc eat cat depending on their personality as of stormie she wants to play fetch than cuddle, blue just likes to cuddle and get food
lots and lots of food, Bella now, thats my big baby she gets so much attention because she demands it and she will jump on me (on my chest, arms, shoulders) and lay there to get petted and at night time for bed I have blue on one side, stormie on the other, and bella right next to me under the covers but I somehow wake up with her inbetween my legs and i wake up very uncomfortable too
! Tessa loves to play, and rarely cuddles, and only likes attention sometimes, Willie he gets down gives u that paw, and he gets babied
he loves to be held over ur shoulder like a baby, and wlel i am a sucker for those paws
, midnight well he is more feral but he likes getting food and loves to get talked to and well likes my room more and more now, but he feels powerless against my females
well blue and storm are kittnes and well stormie play TOO ROUGH
But it all depends on their personalitys and everything, u wont loose closeness with the one because of another, well I havent lost closeness with any of my babys and well we went from 2 at the begining of last year to 6 at the begining of this year
and I have special bonds with each and most have bonds with each other!

Well, both of my cats will not fit on my lap but there is plenty of room for them both to lay by my side, especially when watching TV. Bedtime is another matter. Normally, both cats are on the bed, laying just as you see them below, waiting for us to come to bed at which time they scamper for positions. It is not always the same but Alley likes to lay on my chest with her face right up under my chin. If we did not have two cats, poor DW would not have a cat, so go for it, get two cats! BTW, right now Alley is laying in the top of the printer and Persi is laying on the little desk space that is left by the keyboard. Since I work from home, I have plenty of time to give both of them attention. And even if I had to drive to work I would know that they had each other during the day.

We had only had Diesel for two months when Tucker came home. Diesel was not at all happy about sharing his home or me with anyone else

After the first week ,with Tucker being in a seperate room, We finally let them meet and from that time on they were together ALL of the time. It probably took a month before Diesel became as loving as he was before Tucker came home,so in my experience there definately was an adjustment period. Now they just pile onto me and lay overtop of one another. At night Tucker will usually sleep under the covers between my feet and Diesel will sprawl out on my pillow next to my head
They make it work

It is definitely wise to follow the steps set out on this website in reference to adding a new cat to a home with a resident cat. However, it is totally worth it! Check out this link: http://www.thecatsite.com/Behavior/4...cing-Cats.html
When I added Cosette, I was worried that it would somehow weaken my relationship with Eponine. I couldn't have been more wrong! Eponine and I are closer than ever and I have also developed a very strong relationship with Cosette. Each cat gets as much attention as she wants and no one feels left out. It is all a balancing act, but completely worth it. Besides, you may find that your current cat really blossoms with the addition of a second cat (the perfect playmate!).

Maybe you'll get lucky and the new cat doesn't want to be a "lap cat"
Reeses isn't one, and I wish she was sometimes, but atleast I'm not covered in cat fur

Wow, what great images! I still need to figure it all out, but I'm getting closer. You guys gave me hope that it is possible to share the love. I'm the mom of three, so I should know. But somehow I didn't relate it to kitties.

Thank you!
