Poor fella. He got a butt knot and I didn't know about it. He ended up with dirreah and combined with the knot, I had an unhappy Persian. Today, I called the vet to see if they would shave him. They used to shave my (RB) Tink. Yes they will, but he'll be treated like it's surgery. Which means they'll knock him out. So, Mike (my hubby) and I got the dog clippers out. Mwahahahaha Poor Rams now has a nekkid back-end.
I wonder if it's drafty back there?

By the way, he's not pleased. LOL He growled at us. I had to pet him and give him scritches the whole time and try to shave him with one had. Not fun!

Question to the people in the know, how often should I shave the area? I brush/comb him all the time but his "saddle bags" still keep knotting on me.

lol!

Cheshire Cat has really long hair (although he's not a Persian). I couldn't possibly shave him without him FREAKING OUT and maybe having a panic attack, so I use scissors to cut his hair. It's not stylish, but it gets the job done. I hold him, and my fiance very carefully does the cutting. He weighs 27 pounds... it's definitely a two person job.

Anyway, I cut his hair once every two or three weeks. After you get used to doing it, you'll find out how long it takes Ramsey's hair to grow out again. Until then, just keep a close eye on it! And definitely cut it BEFORE the problem, not after; it will just make things much easier

My Pumpkin had some of those "knots" back there too. I call them "dreadlocks".
She got them after I fed her some food that didn't, ummm...agree with her.

Not sure about the shaving...I guess just keep an eye on it and see how it goes. Probably would take at least a month or two to grow long enough to cause a problem again.

Will they do this at a grooming salon? Anybody know? There is a petsmart handy by me that has a grooming salon. But I feel weird calling to ask if they will shave my cat's butt.

I would be uncomfortable taking my cat to a groomer, at least one like that who mostly does dogs. I'd be afraid that the cat would freak out and that the groomers are better w/dogs and not so good handling cats. ...but yeah, they would probably do it.

You could call that area "britches" ...I think that term should be familiar w/a groomer.

If I needed this done and couldn't do it myself, I would take them to the vet. My vet's office does shaving on cats pretty regularly.

To my knowledge, if your groomer will groom cats, they will also trim the hind area at your request.
